Hi Cal,

Prayers up for everyone in NOLA, Mississippi and Alabama. The news just now trickling out about the severity of this is not good.

That's what many FReepers have been saying....Shep was wrong...give it a few more hours....NO has NOT missed the bullet.

I remember a small cat 3 in Houston in '83...unbelievable damage...NO will be the same...

Fox: Eight feet of water in the city just south of Lake P. Water still rising

Let us know if they give a more specific location. There are 2 different levee systems/bowls that border the lake, and if the water is heading into the northeast one, the larger central/west one(which contains downtown) will not be affected (unless their levee is also topped.) The dividing line is the Industrial Canal that runs north/south on the east side of the city, should be visible on most maps. The Univ. of NO is in the NE corner of the central bowl(west side of the Canal), the Lakefront Airport is in the NW corner of the northeast bowl(east side of the Canal.)

Thanks! A little dirt in the french fries has the same effect as flossing one's teeth.

It's a HEALTH thing, ya know.

Here's another one.

Tyrell Willis fights his way through strong winds as he tries to make his way to the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans as Hurricane Katrina batters the Crescent City on Monday, Aug. 29, 2005. Willis's home was damaged by the storm, forcing him to walk to the Superdome where officials are providing shelter from the hurricane. (AP Photo/Bill Haber)

I know it is getting old, but if they are acting like kids might as well show it.

Oh fiddle-dee-dee, this is an amazing thread, with people speculating on every aspect of this horrific storm...many posting pictures those of us w/out cable TV especially appreciate, with reporting going on from all quarters, all networks, cable shows and radio news.

A bit of humor has NEVER hurt a discussion thread, yet. Ever.

Grumpy today? It is probably because you are on an adrenaline aftermath from caring so much about the storm, and wanting to know every detail, like many here. Nothing wrong with that, your patience will return.

Once again, New Orleans is spared (somewhat), and everyone who has been warning about this storm looks like an idiot!

=P

Seriously, it's great the storm dropped in intensity, but nobody's out of the woods yet.

What are the latest reports in regards to the SuperDome? Is emergency power still available? Is the roof structure still holding?

This is a check in for blam. I am his son. I am writing on behalf of blam who asked me to report to you all. We have no power, trees down, high wind gusts, lotsa rain, but safe. Using laptop with limited power so will not be on again until later - maybe tomorrow.

Cheers.

Laz apologized and dropped the humor. Now more noise is coming from people piling on him than he initially created. Can we please try to keep this thread on topic, as news is going to be coming in fast and furious?

Hey, if he can stir up 100 off-topic posts to get his ego fix, I figure I'm allowed one good swat...
