Category 4 Hurricane Katrina is approaching landfall in Eastern Louisiana. At 4:00AM EDT the storm's center was about 90 miles south of New Orleans.

I'll say this....... if this turns out to be a story of "not so much damage" to New Orleans, New Orleans citizens will NEVER be convinced to evacuate EVER AGAIN. And I could understand their feelings.

Yep. People are stupid, that's for sure. This is the logic of saying, "Last time they convinced me to stop playing Russian Roulette, the next chamber was empty, so now I'll KEEP playing!"

I haven't heard anymore reports from the TV reporter inside the Superdome. Don't know why.

In eyewall replacement, the storm intensifies, is that correct?

No. During a replacement a storm weakens considerably. After it's over, a storm will return to its original strength if conditions around it haven't changed; if shear, dry air have increased, or the storm is passing over land, it won't restrengthen after the replacement.

Campbell Brown live from Houma on NBC, outside, police vehicles still on the ground, reporting light damage, siding, awnings, etc.

Jeff Ranieri live from Biloxi, gusts to 80 mph, sheet metal coming loose, trees uprooted, power out, just the beginning of the most intense effects.

Carl Quintanilla in NO parking garage (Hyatt garage?), Hyatt windows blown out, exposing frame, lamp poles down, aluminum siding torn loose, sewers still taking water, winds and debris currently a greater concern than flooding.

Donna Gregory in Covington LA, 40k people w/o power, electrical fire in home, FD cannot respond, standing water and flooding concerns, gusts above 100 mph.

I believe that would be the case only if it were over water. It's moving onto land and that will break it up, eventually...

NBC's Carl Quintanilla (sp?) reporting from NO, the Hyatt Regency I think, saying that wind may be becoming more of a concern than the flooding. Hotel near him had windows blown out, and he reported debris flying. Storm drain working, though, which was good news.

Completely wrong. Eyewall replacement doesn't strengthen storms at all. Katrina went from Cat 2 to Cat 5 because of a favorable external environment.

From the face of the fox reporters last night i think he knew the super dome was not safe.
