TEHRAN, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- Iran denounced Pope Benedict XVI on Saturday for his recent comments on Islam and requested a apology, the official IRNA news agency reported

The pope's remarks were "contradictory to his status as the leader of one of the world's divine faiths," Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini was quoted as saying.

The remarks made by the pope, "emanate from political interpretations and are contrary to the divine notions, we consider it's a big mistake... and we condemn them," he added

"In order to prevent the indignation of the Muslim's world, the Pope should reconsider and correct his comments," the spokesman stressed.

Ahmad Khatami, a leading Iranian cleric talking to worshippers at the main weekly prayers in Tehran on Friday, also criticized that "it is a pity that the leader of the world's Christians is so uninformed about Islam and speaks so rudely."In a speech at Regensburg University in Germany on Tuesday, Pope Benedict XVI quoted a 14th-century Christian emperor who said the Prophet Muhammad had brought the world only "evil and inhuman" things.

That's a good sign. Like what the Nazi's would have said if the Pope would have criticized them for exterminating Jews.

Just great.

I am praying that the Pope stands firm. If he falls back on that we-all-worship-the-same-god crap, I'm going to puke.

So the religion of peace is so enraged that they are going to follow Ghandi's example and have peaceful marches and call on people to please reconsider their views.

Nah...

There have been protests where the Pope has been burned in effigy, charactatures have been created of him as a monster and I'm sure some of these people will manage to stirr up violence against Christian minorities in Muslim nations.

Another day, same news.

The pope should not apologize. These muslims apparently have a low emotional threshold much like troubled and immature 12 year olds throwing temper tantrums.

"If you accuse us of using violence, we'll kill you!"

Or, more generally:

"For all x, if you accuse us of x, we'll kill you!"

****************

Pope Benedict will do what he believes is right, and in accordance with Catholic doctrine. He will not be swayed by public opinion, or be influenced by threats.

Apology? Come on, what real, truly focused individual actually wants an apology? Apologies are for losers! Maybe that's why so many democrats are always calling for those apologies. lol Like most of you, I have been abused in the marketplace of ideas, but I never once wanted or expected an apology! Geeze!!! lol

"If you accuse us of using violence, we'll kill you!"

A culture with no sense of irony. Like another poster, I can't figure out if they are all insane, sociopaths, possessed, stupid or what. Or perhaps it is a culture of short men who spend too much time in the hot sun without cold beer and beautiful women in skimpy bathing suits.

please guys and gals, stop buying petroleum based oil.
we are financing these outrageous violent crybabies.
They want to wipe Israel off the map, destroy the West,
and then get offended when someone quotes a 1000 year
old conversation...to them I quote a 2000 year old
question...what do you get if you gain the world, but
lose your soul?
