If this is the crowd pushing Duncan Hunter and slamming loyal FReepers like Mad Ivan...then this is truly nasty.

AGREED!!!

Rockefeller Republicans are the people who killed Baryy Goldwater not the Dems. And Rockefeller Republicans gave us Viet Nam, Lyndon Johnson, Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter.

I would like to see the membership number even higher for Duncan Hunter. We are conservatives, he is the most conservative candidate.

You'll take that one quote to your grave with you as your one and only chance to rationalize abandoning the reach toward "that shining city on a hill" and not make the spirit of that great man proud whatsoever!!! The shame of it all!!!

The difference is, he meant this after he'd at least tried with all his might to move the ball down the field toward the goal of consumate conservatism. You want to use this quote to beat all of us over the head before the danged coin is even flipped to see who's going to kick and who's going to receive!!!

And by golly, they better talk nice and civil to you about it, too, right?

Yup, and now they're trying to give us Romney, McCain, and Giuliani.

The FreeRepublic used to be an area where conservatives could discuss their opinions and with some exceptions never expected to be blasted by others. Lately, things are awfully acerbic.

Really? Must have been in the 7 months between when you signed up and when I signed up. I've been called every name in the book on FR and it taught me to toughen up, let the dumb stuff roll off my back, and forgive people who go over the top and feel bad about it.

I love the rough-and-tumble as long as the attacks aren't personal. Every politician should be fair game--especially those who want conservative votes but despise us and our positions.

There is a degree of venom.

This is a conservative site.

The owner of this site is a conservative with a VERY clear mission statement which amounts to a declaration of war against liberalism and those that promote. Rudy in his own words shares a similiar philosophy to Hillary's, minus the war.

This is NOT a Republican forum. Hostility to a Liberal is not restricted to those on the Democrat aisle. Rudy seeks to lead the only party that remotely is open to conservatisism. This in turn is going to result in a backlash from conservatives.

If you do not like the atmosphere, remember you chose to register on a website that did not falsely advertise itself as anything less then unapologetically conservative and hostile to liberalism. If people supporting a liberal Republican are intimidated by that, again, they chose the wrong website to register at. Worse, they may want to rethink their decision to be active in presidential politics because it will become far more dirty and heated as days go by and, yes, Rudy and his supporters are NO different. Marquis of Queensbury rules don't fly in national politics. You'll get rolled by the other guy that wants it more. Rudy knows that, he didn't get elected in N.Y. by playing by a gentlemen's code so let's stop the false impressions that hunter supporters are without class while your guy, his staff and his supporters are a cut above. It won't fly.

You tell us how we're running our country into the ground all the time. If that didn't occur, you'd have a stronger case.

I've never, ever gone onto a British website and done that. And wouldn't. It's rude.

Paulat,

Should two or three conservatives split the conservative vote and allow Rudy to be nominated, you will see open civil war in the Republican party. This is nothing.

Well, at least I've got something to "wind up!" (snort!)

All you wanna do is stand around holding hands with all those "civil" talkers and keep moaning "Cumbuya... Hmmmmmmmmmm, Cumbuya..."

The way to avoid that is to ensure that Giuliani does not get the nomination. If he were to get it somehow, it would ensure a strong third party challenge, and a Democrat win.

Exactly. Rudy is a 38% candidate nationwide. And a GOP disaster in the making.

If they succeed, they will lose the election to Hillery, she will be a one time President and Hunter will come back to win in 2012 - a repeat of the Ford/Rockefeller race and Carter win followed by Ronald Reagan.

I understand how you feel, but keep in mind what a microcosm the sample really is.

By the way... who is Poe? Edgar Allen Poe is gone, so who's this?
