FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: …most politicians never met a dollar they didn’t like.

SUBJECT: US Congressional Candidate Katherine Jenerette On the Issues Part I

DATE: April 17, 2008          FOR MORE INFORMATION: www.jenerette.org

On Thursday, Jenerette outlined some of her basic positions on the issues with the following release:

KATHERINE JENERETTE on the ISSUES: A Brief Overview of my Agenda and Issues Part One

Washington is a far different place today than it was with a Republican majority in both Houses and our district here in South Carolina has changed tremendously over the years,” Katherine Jenerette said. “Our times call for a Congressman to represent our district who has the stamina to push for the people and business communities of South Carolina and to go toe-to-toe with the Democrats in general and people like Speaker Nancy Pelosi specifically.”  ~ North Myrtle Beach Times, April 3, 2008

katherine jenerette

Katherine Jenerette is an experienced solid leader with conservative values and principles for government. She has clearly demonstrated her dedication to her community through volunteer service to the state and our region in the political arena and to the nation overall as a soldier in the Persian Gulf War. Her commitment to our US Constitution and real world experiences stand her apart from most public servants. Katherine is not your typical politician. Katherine Jenerette steps up and she gets things done.

Jenerette’s legislative agenda includes the issues of the Economy, National Security, Health Care, Education, District Roads such as I-73 and Infrastructure including a Regional SC/NC Bi-State Airport, Budget Control, Illegal Immigration, Tax reform, the War on Terror, a comprehensive ENERGY policy of Domestic Oil, Solar, Wind, Nuclear and Clean Coal utilization, Compulsory Military Service and revisiting the federal bureaucratic ‘No Child Left Behind’ education bill among other issues.

On Regional & Coastal issues and Constituent Service: "While I know the difficulties of making change happen in Washington as a Congressman I know that my realistic impact can be through direct service to the people and the businesses in our district. By opening at least three more local offices; in Georgetown, in Conway and in Charleston, I can provide access to working people, retirees, businessmen and women, educators and a host of others that have worked hard, paid their taxes and count on their government to do those things that they cannot do alone. This includes social security and disability assistance, veterans administration assistance, roads and infrastructure, beach renourishment, economic development, natural resource conservation, etc. No Congressman can work miracles in Washington, but as a Representative I can be more active in the district and I will be here to help all of the people of our district.”

On the Economy: “The economy is in serious trouble. My plan calls for immediate actions to be taken by the Congress and includes an indexed moratorium on the Federal Gasoline tax and permanent income tax cuts. The best way to help our consumer driven economy is to help people keep their own hard earned money. Our economic system is fueled by the people’s confidence to spend, and they can’t spend if the Congress keep taxing them to death. The reality of a Democrat-controlled Congress cannot be ignored and their agenda cannot be challenged by status quojenerette_tv Republicans. As long as we were in the majority, it was easy to ”Rubber-stamp” legislation - good or bad. But now, we need a Congressman who has insight, energy and the willpower to go on the offensive to introduce and push conservative legislation that is in the best interest of the people and businesses of our district. Direct challenge must be made to politicians who ‘play politics as usual’ with the best interest of the American people. The best way to control the federal budget and out-of-control spending is to not give any more money to politicians than necessary; most politicians never met a dollar they didn’t like.”

On the War on Terror - Take the Fight to Their Backyard: "Stop the terrorists over THERE before they get over HERE. Wars cannot be fought or won by Committees. The Constitution is explicit on who the Commander of Chief is and his role. The recent bills passed by both the Democrat-controlled House and Senate shows a purely political agenda on their part with complete disregard to America’s security and vital interests. If elected to Congress, my experiences as a soldier who served in the Middle East will allow me to demand accountability on the part of politicians who know little or nothing about the War on Terror or our National Strategic interests in other parts of the world. Withdrawal from Iraq will not remove security threats and reduce our vital interests from that area. Iraq and the Middle East does not stop being in our long term national interests just because House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and some naive Congressmen and Senator Barack Obama said so.”

On the American Family: "Traditional families and faith are at the core and the foundation of our nation. Many of the issues from social security, health care, education options, pro-life and marriage issues are of critical importance to the future of this nation. We cannot ignore the fact that with the Baby Boom Generation moving into retirement many of us face the prospect of being ‘sandwiched’ between our teenagers and the needs of our parents. Whether we are talking about retirees and the cost of prescription drugs or sensible, non-bureaucratic approaches to education for our children, these monumental challenges for our government and society cannot be ignored for long. As a mother of four children that attend public schools, as a college instructor and as a business woman I have come face-to-face with these real world issues and intend to introduce aggressive legislation to begin the difficult task of insuring that no American will be pushed to the sidelines because of Congressional ineptness.”

On Illegal Immigration - A Front Door Only Policy:  “A Border is a Border is a Border. The rule is this: If you come into the United States you come in through the front door not the back door. All that is left is to enact legislation that recognizes that fact of national security and sovereignty. We need to build the fence, control who crosses our borders and monitor non-citizens visa statuses in a responsible and realistic way. There is no doubt that the need for labor and a guest worker program is necessary - but we need a FRONT DOOR IMMIGRATION POLICY. My legislative agenda includes provisions for employers of ‘undocumented’ workers to assist their return to their country of origin and expeditiously, with full coordination and cooperation with those countries, be allowed to re-enter the US through the front door and return to their jobs. They return in a documented status and are allowed to take their place in line like everyone else with when it applies to citizenship requirements. Work visas - like student visas - like tourist visas are not an automatic ticket to citizenship. Immigrants to this country should be required to line up like everyone else at the FRONT DOOR.

...the long road from the Persian Gulf War
to Washington D.C.

Katherine Jenerette is a U.S. Army veteran of the Persian Gulf War - Operation Desert Storm, and is still serving as a U.S. Army Reserve Officer and an Airborne Paratrooper. Katherine has served as a U.S. Congressional Field Representative for the 1st Congressional District, South Carolina.  She is a graduate of the University of South Carolina, Coastal Carolina campus and she holds a Masters Degree from USC, Columbia. While in the Army; prior to her deployment to the Middle East with the U.S. 3d Armored Division, Katherine attended night college classes and had competed in the 1990 U.S. Army Europe Track and Field Championships as a member of the V Corps Track Team. After coming home from the Gulf War, Katherine attended USC Coastal Carolina on a Cross Country and Track scholarship as a ‘walk-on.’ She was recognized as one of the region’s top runners when she was named to the NCAA Track & Field Big South Conference in 1994. Katherine is an Adjunct Professor of History. Her classes include Western Civilization, American History and African American History. She served as a member of the North Myrtle Beach Planning Commission and on the Horry County Envision 2025 Comprehensive Planning Committee task force. Katherine lives in North Myrtle Beach with her husband Van, and their four children and is a member of the First Baptist Church. Katherine remains very involved in sports including golfing, running, ocean kayaking, triathlons, etc.

I don’t think Katherine looks angry in the picture. To me that is the look of a tough paratrooper ready to stand her ground and tell the liberals “ nuts.”

Best of luck Katherine Jenerette.

Congresscritters will get to have a big say in one's monthly income...

Explain yourself, sir.   If there is no income tax, and only a consumption tax on new goods and services, how could you think Congress would have a bigger say in one's monthly income than the IRS currently has?

I would also urge you as others have, Candidate Jenerette, to support the FairTax in order to eliminate the IRS, give income back to individuals, and bring overseas jobs back to South Carolina.

I am from SC, but the wrong one to vote for you. I appreciate your stand on illegal immigration. It is not as common as I’d like to see among those running for congress and will not endear you to business. You also understand the economy better than most. Capitalism requires capital and when the government comes in a takes it, our econmy suffers, duh! I routinely pray for leaders with wisdom and integrity and hope you have both. Prayers and best wishes in your run and jump for that matter!

Just watch your back here on FR. The people who have nothing but praise for you now as a great conservative freeper for office will be more than happy to smear you in a couple of a years as a "nanny-state socialist" if you end up in a race against their pet celebrity candidate. It doesn't matter if you agree with them on 99% of the issues, the purists here will find SOME issue you "betrayed" them on. Either you personally agree with them 100% of the time, or you're the enemy.

>> I intend to vote for you in the primary, but I am curious: why are you running against HBrown, who is at least a reliable conservative, and not against LGraham, who is a liberal squish of the McCain variety? <<

1) Graham already has several "True conservative" opponents against him in the primary. Why would you think splitting the anti-Graham vote even more in the primary would be useful?

2) "Liberal squish" Graham's voting record is actually pretty close to "reliable conservative" Henry Brown's. They both had an ACU rating of 84% last year. Graham's lifetime conservative rating is 90%, Brown's is 92%. I don't think anyone who votes conservative 90% of the time is a "liberal squish". Graham is buddies with McCain, true, but so is "true conservative" Fred Thompson, and Lindsey Graham's lifetime conservative record is better than Fred's (compare their statements on the federal marriage amendment, for instance). Of course, using actual facts and logic about Graham's voting record is pointless with the people foaming at the mouth to remove him from office because he disagree with them on Gang of 14 compromise (which wasn't that bad) and an sucky amnesty bill that he has since backtracked on.

You would be a great succesor when Henry Brown retires, but this year is not the right time for you to run. First, if you do win the SC primary, your campaign will have to finance the election on your own. The NRCC is short on omney these days. Second, expect your family problems to be the camapign issue.

“…most politicians never met a dollar they didn’t like.”

Neither did I but I tend to earn them for myself. :)

If I lived in your district you would have my vote.

Thank you for your service to our country, even though you jump out of perfectly good aircraft.

As I tell my husband, there is no such thing as a perfectly good air craft. Only one that hasn't crashed yet.

Yes, we’ve had our primary.
Yes, Brown is currently holding the seat for District one in DC.
Yes, Brown is running on the Republican Ticket so is Katherine. She filed after the primary. They both are in the running for the seat against a Democrat.

Didn't Brown win the primary for the congressional seat? Or is there no primary for congressional seats in South Carolina? I confess my knowledge of your local politics is near total.
