No. Really. You're kidding me. Barack Obama actually told that Joe the Plumber guy that he wants to "spread the wealth around." What, did Obama just get done reading the Wikipedia entry on Huey "Share the Wealth" Long or something? Was he somehow channeling that left-wing populist from the Depression? Talk about playing into the most extreme stereotype of your party, that it is infested with socialists.

A while back I chatted with a University of Chicago professor who was a frequent lunch companion of Obama's. This professor said that Obama was as close to a full-out Marxist as anyone who has ever run for president of the United States.

The problem is half of Americans think socialism sounds like a good thing.

I wish the “Senator Government” moniker would get repeated on an hourly basis.

I was thinking that myself, especially in a time when we are going through a recession. But it should be fairly obvious to most observant people that the "rich" are getting crushed the drops in the stock markets.

Talking about spreading the wealth--HOW MUCH DID OBAMA AND HIS WIFE GIVE TO CHARITY? (not counting the last two to three years when he decided to run for president- we know that was contrived) Oh! I get it, typical lib--giving is for thee not for me!

It is free market capitalism, not socialist redistribution, that has been conclusively demonstrated to “spread the wealth” more widely and more deeply than any other economic system.

########

Bullseye. THE fundamental problem in our country today.

And, much of that is based on envy. God knew what he was doing with those Commandments.

You're right. It is a huge problem. I wish they could see that even socialism doesn't quite capture his intentions.

Who? Milton Friedman? Leo Strauss? Richard Posner? Antonin Scalia? T.S. Eliot?

That's the problem...it sounds good. In practice, it is devastating.

"SPREADING THE WEALTH AROUND"?

Spreading? SPREADING??

What a wonderfully sugar-coated euphemism for,

I just got one of those emails going around that said:

‘A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover
they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury.’

‘From that moment on, the majority always vote for the candidates who
promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that
every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is
always followed by a dictatorship.’

It would be a shame if a few well-populated, greedy regions of our country tore down the whole system.
