Posted on 01/12/2010 2:22:15 PM PST by Pyro7480

A major magnitude 7.3 quake hit the impoverished country of Haiti Tuesday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The epicentre of the quake, which was initially reported a magnitude 7.0 off the coast, was located inland, six miles (10 km) west of Carrefour, close to the capital Port-au-Prince and was only 20.5 miles (30 km) deep. Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere....

Sure.

That would work if it wasn't for the fact that so many of the other signs are here. Earthquakes in diverse places, not isolated but in conjunction with all of the other signs, is fulfillment of Scriptural prophecy.

The prophecies in Revelation, which include "stars falling from the sky", are for the Tribulation, which is not yet here. But the fact that all of the signs Jesus gave us that would occur right before His return are happening are indicative of the nearness of the Tribulation.

It's that simple.

One person on the ground estimated, and I quote: “hundreds of thousands of casualties/dead.”

So this is of the Tsunami proportion. I was dreading this info.

Prayers.

I think someone said Port au Prince had a population of 2 million. %60 of it in substandard living. And six miles from a 7.0 EQ that was only 6 miles deep. And even if one can survive, the entire country as only 1000 hospital beds as per a poster. (Including the one in PauP that collapsed).

From a twitter up the thread the person talked about the “Castel Haiti” was lieing in a heap. Looks like it was a fairly modern (and tall) convention center:

From the same source in PauP says the Hotel Montana is also gone. I can only imagine if newer/modern structures like this are gone, the mass of people living in the slums will fare worse. So sad. Interesting how on his twitter, one minute he is talking about getting a music video shoot together, until the earthquake hits. A reminder to all of us I suppose on how fast things can change.

As used in Scripture, the purpose of all earthquakes, regardless of the cause, is to warn or administer judgment to individuals in history for apostasy, reversionism, and evil.

One aspect of of the Haitian nation which seems to be avoided, is their past history and trends as an enemy of the US. Our expenditure of Billions of dollars there protecting ourselves defensively from many threats being fostered there is being ignored. There have been many a nation with far less, who turned to God with far more growth, than exhibited by Haiti.

Considering the number of antiterrorist special forces sent there over the last decade might indicate things were going on there which haven’t been so publicly revealed.

IMHO, I don’t rule out that God Himself might have been administering either judgment on evil in that nation, and/or warning others that such enterprises do not escape His view or judgment.

All history is His Story, and there are reasons for all things, for believers and unbelievers alike, although rewards are predestined for those who persevere through faith in Him.

Jim,I stand corrected it was Port Royal that was totally desroyed, and also the pirate haven.

It has been a while since I saw the History Channel special on pirates.

As used in Scripture, the purpose of all earthquakes, regardless of the cause, is to warn or administer judgment to individuals in history for apostasy, reversionism, and evil.

Name a single earthquake or natural disaster of any consequence in Germany from 1933 to 1945.

Sometime in the next 30 years; could be five minutes from now, could be two decades from now. a 6.7-7.2 magnitude quake is going to occur on the Hayward Fault along the Eastern San Franscisco Bay. It's going to do several hundred billion dollars of damage, and, depending on the time of day it occurs, kill hundreds to thousands of people.

It will instantly be proclaimed by many (with great relish) to be a judgement against all the homosexuals in the Bay area, or the radical leftists of Berkeley, or the fact abortion is legal in the US, etc. etc.

The reality, of course, is that it was a result of the slow movement of the Pacific Plate northwest along the margin of the North American Plate; there was the historical Hayward quake of 1868, and paleoseismic trenching studies have found a repeated pattern of such quakes every 100-200 years or so going back thousands of years, to when there was only a smattering of Indians in the area for the quake to administer a "judgment" to.

The last report is that they are fine i.e. they survived. I imagine today will be a real test.

Again, you're missing the point. The unprecedented tribulation, the stars falling from the sky, the sun and moon not giving their light are signs of the nearness of the end of the age and his return. Jesus isn't giving signs about the nearness of the tribulation. His message throughout this discourse in Matthew 24 about the end of the world and his return is that a. it's going to happen, b. it's going to happen quickly, c. it's going to go from life as usual (wars, rumors of wars, famines, earthquakes, marrying and giving in marriage, believers getting persecuted, etc.) to the end in a sudden irremediable flash that will come upon the people of the earth as suddenly and without warning as the flood in Noah's time.

I wish there was an effort to recover all the money wasted on that Coppenhagen conference and use that to help those poor suffering people of Haiti...

I’ve gone with short term mission teams, so we raise funds for the project and the trip. But that’s with Food for the Hungry - their trips are a little less expensive than Compassion’s. Probably because we stay in the community instead of at a resort or hotel during the week. The kids love getting to see their sponsors, or getting first-hand news of them. We are constantly asked, and I hope I’m getting this right: “Sabe patricinador?” (Do you know my sponsor?)

The aftershocks (in bold) following the initial quake are rather powerful and had to have added measureably to the structural damage. Large number of casualties/dead expected, following the quakes, due to injuries, exposure to the weather, shock, disease, lack of medical care/rescue/sanitation/municipal systems, etc. Yes, it's a very bad situation, and the extent of casualties/dead largely remains unknown. Once a list of the missing is compiled, some kind of scope on the casualties/dead will emerge.

My post did not once mention race.

Haiti's story was a bit different. Sort of like if Al Sharpton suddenly found himself in charge... The Haitians went on a rampage and murdered nearly all of the whites in 1805 and have reaped what they have sown. A turd-world African failed state in an otherwise largely prosperous hemisphere - every single nation in our hemisphere - except Communist Cuba - is far more prosperous than anything Africa can claim - except Haiti. 200 years after the butchering of the white French, Port Au Prince is still a sewer.

The only reason I remembered was a very old National Geographic article on the undersea archaeology done on the site. I have always wanted to take up diving but living in the middle of the desert until I got too old has kept me back.

The news out of Haiti is so very sad.
