The name Barack has gone up in popularity.

The name Hillary went down in popularity when the Clintons came on the national scene.

I wanted to name our daughter “Taryn Skye” when she was born. My parents and husband talked me out of it. So she became “Taryn Elise.” If any kid has made her name her own, she has. She’s a wonderful, strong-willed, conservative, smart teen who goes her own way. I’m blessed to have such a great kid. :-)

Where’s this lady been? This article could’ve been written in the ‘80s (and was).

My husband worked in Detroit as a case worker in social services. Some of the names of his “clients” were unreal.

His favorite? Karatoshak.

Poor girl.

Wife is a teacher and she and I were discussing this very thing last night. She said the most unusual names on kids she has taught were:

- Conception
- Cinnamon
- Wednesday (who has a younger brother named Pugsly - I couldn’t make that up!)
- Marvelous (who was so far from being “marvelous” it ain’t even funny)

Because people today could use even more self-absorption than they already have.

I will get charged with racism if any politically correct types are around, but, years ago, black people had the same “normal” names that everyone else did. Now many, not all, but many young black people have names that didn’t even exist many years ago.

I have a friend who is a teacher. She told me last year, in her class, she had six students with different spellings of the same first name. One “yoot” told her “You forgot the apostrophe.”

Well there the family that named their first three: LIberty, Freedom, Justice and the baby’s middle name is Ferrall.

ANd then there is Rosy, Red and Blackie Butt. (Last two WERE nicknames)

How about the Tree family: Douglas Furr and Mary Christmas?

Holly Day -— Holly Berry at least could get a name change at their wedding.

In "Unintended Consequences" there is a woman working for BATF whose mother decided to give her a name which is (she has been told) a variation of "Gloria" it's pronounced "GonORrhea".

As an adult, the woman prefers to be known as "GG"
