Narcissistic personality disorder, characterized by an inflated sense of self-importance and the need for constant attention, has been eliminated from the upcoming manual of mental disorders, which psychiatrists use to diagnose mental illness.
As Charles Zanor reports in today’s Science Times, the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders — due out in 2013 and known as D.S.M.-5 — has eliminated five of the 10 personality disorders that are listed in the current edition. The best known of these is narcissistic personality disorder.
It is a puzzle why the manual’s committee on personality disorders has decided to throw N.P.D. off the bus.

A closely related event took place in 1973, when two homosexual psychologists who had managed to get themselves into the power structure of the American Psychological Association (APA) used political maneuvering to get the APA to delete same sex attraction and homosexual behavior from the official compendium of mental health diseases.
Narcissistic Personality Syndrome is often a correlate of homosexual acting out, so it’s no surprise that politics has again trumped science in forcing the powers that be to call sickness health and health sickness. Thanks to the APA. more and more patients are left with no therapists to be found should they want to seek treatment for their disorders.
Mental health professionals who buck rulings of the lock-step ultraLeftist politicized APA are demonized as “out of compliance” if they buck a “professional” ruling of the APA.

They did in my office. I was the Office Manager for the Head Psych of a large hospital. They paid for behavioral therapies if nothing else.

For a medical commission to do this is just incredible.
Same with the CIA and FBI hiring practices and leakages that are about protecting one party, NOT the country.
Many people should be jailed for not being honest with the public that’s paying their salaries and benefits.

This could another example of the politically motivated abuse of psychiatry, which was a staple of the Soviets and a common feature of many tyrannical social systems.
What in psychiatry was heretofore abnormal is normalized - if it is deemed beneficial to the ruling class(e.g., homosexuality, narcissism). On the other hand, those otherwise normal individuals who dissent from the policies of the regime are officially deemed abnormal and in need of government-sponsored "treatment."

Let’s see. Today we learn that narcissism is no longer a mental disorder, stealing and using another person’s social security number is not a crime, and what else? Waiting for committing fraud in an election to be declared an unimpeachable offense.
There’s no end to Zero’s capacity to creep you out. Now it’s a thumb puppet. I’d like to think of something witty to say, but that’s just too weird for words.
What were the other four disorders dropped from the list? I’ve looked, but I can’t find anything about them.
