Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is quietly bringing back rifles, shotguns and ammunition to hundreds of U.S. stores as the hurting retail giant seeks to reinvigorate its one-stop shopping appeal and attract more male customers.
WSJ's Miguel Bustillo reports Wal-Mart is returning rifles, shotguns and ammunition to its shelves in an effort to reach male consumers and re-establish its 'one-stop shopping' brand. . The world's largest retailer stopped selling hunting rifles and bullets at all but a third of its U.S. stores five years ago, citing diminishing sales. It is now restoring them to hundreds of locations, bringing the total to nearly half of its more than 3,600 U.S. namesake stores, as part of a larger push to restore "heritage categories" of merchandise such as fishing rods and bolts of sewing fabric that it removed in an attempt to go upscale that backfired.

Yeah, that whole ‘going upscale’ concept just doesn’t seem to have worked out for them...
Gee, WalMart must have found Chinese sources for guns and ammo.
If only they would start importing discounted Siaga’s and AK’s along with lots of PMC Ammo. That would make them popular. Just think what they could make off 922R kits alone.
It will be interesting to see what they bring back. I bought a Moss 500 there with a deer and bird barrels for $239 about 10 years ago. I’d get another gun there if I find the right one.
... and a strengthening demand for guns and bullets.
Hmmm... wonder why that is?
Anything to help America these days even if we have to go abroad to maintain our rights under the Constitution.
If that's what it takes because of rule under the false Messiah then I'm for it!
Mossberg 8+1 Persuader 12 gauge here - $198 out the door. Damn good shotgun! 15 years ago. They won’t carry it now.
I find all I need at other stores now, and I save time and money.
Goodbye WalMart! I hardly know you anymore!
Policies Regarding the Sale of Certain Products at Target
Guns / Toy Guns
Target does not sell real guns, or toy guns that can be mistaken for real guns.
In the early 1990s, we made the decision to stop selling "realistic" toy guns. We limited the sales of toy guns to those that are brightly colored and oddly shaped and, therefore, will not be mistaken for an actual weapon. We firmly believe that any toy gun that has the potential to be mistaken for a real gun is inappropriate for sale at Target.
Tobacco and Cigarettes
Target discontinued the sale of cigarettes in our stores in 1996. We do not currently sell any tobacco products.
They had a pretty good franchise, a while back. Then they decided to get cute, and blew it. I doubt if they’re going to find it to be particularly easy to get that particular customer base back, because life goes on and the customers have gone elsewhere.
when did they remove the gun section in the sporting goods part of the store?
“when did they remove the gun section in the sporting goods part of the store?”
IIRC, it was during the Clinton administration. Most of the rural stores continued to carry the guns and ammo.
For instance, in the one I used to go to, during the summer you couldn’t buy any other 22lr but hollow point. Why? Hollow points are death on wheels when shooting coyotes.
All of the big Walmart stores here in Mobile, Al. sell guns and ammo. I bought a 10/22 there a couple months ago, and bought 400 round of .223 last week (why did I buy 400 rounds? Because that’s all they had). You may be able to find a lower price on ammo on the net, but not cheap enough to get past the ease of buying and walking out with it (unless your’re buying very large quantities).
Now I won’t know to buy my shotguns from Walmart or Holland and Holland.
We don’t have much choice in our area but yes, I have noticed that the inventory is sparse.
I get upset that we can’t seem to get any parts around here, no matter the store. We needed a sprocket, went looking and the best we could get was a 5 day wait, my husband made a 2 hour round trip to get one this morning. This afternoon we needed a couple of bearings and they told me that they could have them here in the morning.
It doesn’t matter what we need they have to order it. We had some tires that were backordered for over 6 months. I ordered 2 more bearings than we need and I am going to get model numbers off of our vehicles and equipment and get some inventory myself.
New guy came in:
-Lay off employees in Arkansas
-Export jobs to New York City (because the desired employees who look down on WalMart shoppers weren’t willing to move to Arkansas)
-Stop selling stuff that liberals don’t like or don’t think is cool
-Raise prices
-Watch same store sales decline for two years.
Give the guy a bonus.
So screw 'em. I reload all my usual calibers, anyway.
***Yeah, that whole going upscale concept just doesnt seem to have worked out for them...***
Well, it worked for Woolworths! They stareted off as as 5& dime, every city had one on the square! then went upscale, changed their name to woolco! Look where they are now!
***Target does not sell real guns,***
They used to! I bought a Marlin Glenfield from the TARGET in Tulsa OK back in 1971.
But then there was also TG&Y.
Oklahoma Tire and Supply (Otasco).
K Mart.
Oertles.
All sold firearms back then.
