It’s not about who can win the republican nomination. It’s about who can win the general. Bachman won’t beat obama. I want that commie POS out more than anything right now. At least 4 years of Perry won’t be the final nail in the American coffin.
He isn't Romney/Romneycare/Mormon. That puts him ahead of Romney.

If/when he announces, Palin will probably not run.
Perry can pull votes from the establishment/moderate GOP and from the more conservative GOP. That puts him in a good position to get enough support to win the nomination.
All in all, Perry is 1000 times preferable to the 2008 GOP nominee.
