Poll: Perry Leads Romney by 7 Points
Weekly Standard ^ | Sept. 27, 2011 | Jeffrey H. Anderson

Posted on 09/17/2011 1:46:06 PM PDT by Clairity

A CBS News/New York Times poll taken from September 10th-15th (both before and after the most recent debate) shows Rick Perry with a 7-point edge (23 to 16 percent) over Mitt Romney among registered voters who intend to vote in a Republican primary or caucus.

Among the roughly half (49 percent) of Republican primary voters "who support the Tea Party movement," Perry has by far the highest net favorability rating (+53 percent),

Of note, Sarah Palin's net favorability rating is only +12 percent among Tea Party-supporting Republicans.

What people care about is JOBS.

Unemployment Re-Emerges as Most Important Problem in U.S.

http://www.gallup.com/poll/149453/Unemployment-Emerges-Important-Problem.aspx

People who care about unemployment/jobs and the economy, which is intertwined, is 67%

You can keep spouting “gardasil” all you want to.

If you can’t come up with anything more serious against Perry, you are just shouting yourself horse and nobody cares.

Total Respondents 1452
Total Registered Voters 1356
Total Republicans* 781 383 (26%)
Total Democrats 315 485 (33%)
Total Independents 356 584 (41%)
*This survey included an oversample of self-identified Republicans.

Let me get this straight, they weight the poll responses to include 26% Reps and 36% D? Totally overweighted the Rats.

One paragraph from a speech over 10 years ago about a “study” is not a policy. Once again, what is PerryCare?

Palin’s statements are given more attention because several are under the impression she is a prospective candidate for office. An impression she feeds to her own benefit with less benefit to the conservative cause or Republican electoral success. As long as she retains this conflict of interest you can be annoyed from sunrise to sundown for all I care. I will criticize her for this selfish game she is playing and so will the majority of the base that is also fed up with the woman right now.

Clairity, about 99% of what I wrote today is exceedingly positive for Perry.

You just want to be angry with ~ me ~ it has nothing to do with politics.

I hate to disappoint you, but you are vastly overrting your own importance. An anonymous poster on internet is less than a speck of dust in influencing my emotions.

I'll tell you what's annoying, accusing somebody of "snipping from the sidelines". I will point out to you that it is the job of every citizen in the country to constructively criticize the candidates who are in the race. That isn't something only reserved for the candidates in the race to do. If Palin has constructive criticisms to make, I wouldn't give two poops if she did that from inside the race or from on the sidelines.

Palin’s statements are given more attention because several are under the impression she is a prospective candidate for office.

Gee, if it's only several people that are under the impression that she is a prospective candidate, then it can't be more than several people who are giving here statements more attention.

An impression she feeds to her own benefit with less benefit to the conservative cause or Republican electoral success.

Really? Last I looked, Palin hasn't written a book or made another TV program and has made very few paid speeches over the last year. It seems to me that she would have been doing more of that, if she was out for her own benefit to the detriment of conservatives. I would also add that there was no political figure who worked harder in the last election cycle trying to elect conservatives (and Republicans).

As long as she retains this conflict of interest you can be annoyed from sunrise to sundown for all I care. I will criticize her for this selfish game she is playing and so will the majority of the base that is also fed up with the woman right now.

You accuse her of retaining a conflict of interest and playing a selfish game but you have failed to prove your point.

But you continue to have emotions nonetheless.

Seriously you'd best see to their well-being. I posted all sorts of very positive things today about your boy Perry, but I gather since I didn't get down and genuflect and ask him to let me KHB that's not good enough?

Your elitism will lose the election FUR SHUR.

By all means, let's believe everything state-controlled media tells us and allow them to pick our candidate again and again and again and...

Can you find any poll of the general public in the last 2 years where her negatives are not above 50%? Leaving out internet polls and polls form groups like C4P...

Sarah is not going to run.

Michele has passed Paul in the flake race.

Santorum has no chance.

Huntsman & Mitt are not worth mentioning.

Newt is looking good but he doesn't have a chance either.

Cain is looking real good. If Perry fizzles, which I don't think will happen, he's got my vote.

Perry has proposed bi-national health insurance with Mexico:

I fail to see the problem with this idea. Wouldn't it be better to allow insurance companies sell to insurance to people in border areas that can be used on either side of the border? A lot of border people travel back and forth across the border, and if they get sick/hurt, it would be much better if their insurance could pay the bill, rather than taxpayers. All in all, sounds like a pretty conservative idea to me.

Perry, Romney, Bachmann, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. I WANT TO SEE FIRE! Cane is fire! West is fire! Yeah, and Palin if she decides to run, is fire, the rest are just fizzle.

Most doctors all agree, that the current Politicians in power are the easiest to operate on. There’s no guts, no heart, no gonads, no brains, and no spine. Plus, the head and the butt are interchangeable. :o)

“If Palin had just kept her job as Governor and stayed away from fluff Reality TV and spotlight hogging media appearances she might have been able to compete this time around. Which is why it’s obvious she isn’t running in 2012.”

Bingo. I totally agree. She should have served out her term. Immediately after leaving her position, she started touring the country on a book tour and suddenly appeared on FOX as a commentator. Looks opportunistic and a quick chance to cash in. Don’t blame her, but stay out of politics and stop leading on your supporters.

My response:

I agree she took the wrong route if she had wanted to run for POTUS this time around, but I get angry when I think back to Karl Rove's commentaries we heard over and over again right after her VP run in 2008. I remember him telling the world Sarah Palin would be well served for a Presidential run if she would take some time to "brush up on things... go see the world and talk to people all over the world... get a news commentator's position and gain some visibility and use it to become better educated on issues... get speaking engagements to show others who she is and what she knows"...

Well Sarah Palin DID all that, almost exactly what I remember Karl Rove sitting on his FOX News high horse said over and over again right after that VP run, and where did it get her?

It took her out of her office, putting her in a position to have to defend why she did not stick it out, and it has put her in a position where she now has to fight appearances of being money hungry (FOX $1 million year contract, speaking fees, etc.), and it has put her in a position of having to defend why she is out there all the time going places and speaking everywhere.

The more I see what has happened to Sarah Palin's public perception during the presidential race, the more I get angry thinking Karl Rove set her up for such a time as this.

Sarah Palin never changed, but how people saw her did.

Sarah is not going to run.

Well, if that's the case, I can't say I blame her. It shows she's as smart as we thought she was. I like her, but she's not exactly winning "Miss Popularity" these days with Republican voters. She's young, she has an important role to play in the conservative movement, but elective office will have to be in some future cycle.

Here's the five top bullet points from the poll:

The 2012 Race for the Republican Nomination

September 10-15, 2011

􀂃 In a turnaround from four years ago, Republicans are more enthusiastic than Democrats about voting in 2012 compared to past elections.

􀂃 At this early stage in the race for the Republican nomination, Rick Perry (23%) leads Mitt Romney (16%) nationally by 7 points. All other candidates’ support is in single digits. One in five Republican primary voters are undecided.

􀂃 A majority of both Perry and Romney’s supporters have reservations about their candidate.

􀂃 Republican primary voters divide on whether its more important to have a nominee who shares their views on the issues (48%) or one who can beat Barack Obama in 2012 (48%).

􀂃 Sarah Palin receives her highest unfavorable rating (62%) in this poll since CBS News began asking about her in 2008. And for the first time, more Republicans now view her unfavorably than favorably.
