Average Cost Of Obamacare 'Silver' Plan - $328 Per Month
forbes ^ | 9/29/2013 | Dan Munro

Posted on 10/02/2013 7:02:45 AM PDT by tobyhill

That amount – $328 per month – is the national average for the mid-tier “silver” premium based on HHS calculations for approved plans in 48 states. The challenge, of course, is that like all of healthcare itself, your mileage will vary.

Both individual and family insurance rates will vary dramatically based on a host of variables. Those variables – age, marital status, geographic location and income – will each have a significant impact on the final monthly amount.

The most difficult single component in the equation is income – which determines the amount of Federal subsidy any given taxpayer will receive toward the purchase of coverage on the individual state run public exchanges.

The horror of a high deductible hits only those who thought the insurance was going to be free or cheap, and that it would cover everything.

When you decide, like our family has, to save about 9500 a year in premium to go from 1000 deductible to 10,000 deductible, with a health savings account, it’s a great way to insure. Amazing how inexpensive certain care can be when you tell the doctor, pharmacy, etc, you’re paying cash too.......

Seems like a odd posting. The max fine would be 2.5% of your family income or $2,085, which ever is more. Unless the 45-55K is not the total family income.

I have chosen to simply pay the graft to the Gov't and not get insurance.

my fine would be $4,037

The fine for the first year of no insurance is $95 or 1% of household income, whichever is higher. A fine of 4 grand implies an income of 400 grand.

Trust but verify. Until I see some other stories about the email regarding the drivers license suspension for non payment and the tax lien on your home for non-payment, call me skeptical.

I can easily believe the worst that our government can do, anonymous posting from Facebook? Not so much.

A family of 4 making $50,000 a year will be eligible for about a 40% subsidy, making their monthly premium around $780 a month.

That's still hardly affordable. What world does Obama live in?

Oh, that's right; liberal fantasy world.

Here in Pittsburgh for example we seem to be isolated from the rate hikes happening across the country due to the silly slap-fight that is going on between Highmark and UPMC.

Both are saturating the airwaves with ads claiming the other party is the bad guy. Hence neither wants to raise rates right now and prove the claim.

If and when that ever gets resolved, I expect our rates to skyrocket.

health insurance is expensive

But it doesn't have to be. Congress could have reformed health care using free-market principles. But instead Congress chose centralized planning.

Sort of like the way Stalin "reformed" Russian agriculture in the 1920's.

Is it a subsidy or a tax break?

""I actually made it through this morning at 8:00 A.M. I have a preexisting condition (Type 1 Diabetes) and my income base was 45K-55K annually I chose tier 2 "Silver Plan" and my monthly premiums came out to $597.00 with $13,988 yearly deductible!!!

Thanks for posting this. The Obozoliars have been very quiet about the deductible costs for their new medical care slaves.

There are different fines for different things. I think the $95 is for the first year of no insurance. However, I just read an analysis by another person who said that even if you had an insurance policy, if it didn’t meet the O-care mandates, you could still face a $2k fine.

It appears that we STILL don’t know what’s in this legislation, even away from the fog of the original debate.

How could this guy’s fine be over $4,000 when he has a salary of $45,000?!?!

The fine is up to 1% of your salary (not sure if that is Adjusted Gross or total ... I wish someone could find this out for sure).

His max fine sould be no more than $450.
