The family of a Michigan teen who flashed a car’s brights at a sheriff sergeant’s SUV and wound up dead filed a wrongful death lawsuit Wednesday.
A complaint on behalf of slain 17-year-old Deven Guilford accuses Eaton County Sheriff's Sgt. Jonathan Frost of unconstitutional violations of privacy and excessive force in a Feb. 28 traffic stop in the rural central Michigan county outside Lansing.
Guilford flashed the headlights of the car he was driving at the sheriff department’s new SUV as Frost drove it the opposite way on State Highway 43, according to the complaint. The Ford Explorer had “improperly bright or misaimed headlights” and Frost had stopped two other drivers for flashing their lights at him that night, the lawsuit said.

I had not heard about this until yesterday. If the kid was black, I know I would have heard about it.
Apparently serfs are not to inform their betters that the knights of the realm left their brights on?
I only flash my brights once.
Then I figure the other driver is doing it purposely.
I simply switch to brights myself.
Famous story here in Michigan, police vehicle had improperly adjusted lights, blinding oncoming drivers.
The cop was purposely doing it. Had already pulled over two other people for the same thing. Kid was stupid to argue with the cop and not cooperate but dang, shooting him seven times?
He reportedly had already tased the kid but apparently (according to what I heard on the news) didn’t do it right, whatever that means. I think that is when the kid started fighting.

Obviously racism. He would never have been shot if he was white... Oh wait.

I thought it has already been established in court that flashing your headlights to warn others of a cop’s presence is free speech. Unless we’re talking about something else here, like, if people were deliberately harassing the cop by shining their lights in his eyes.
That being said if you’re pulled over while driving you have to present your license if asked. It’s not an option. And you fight the cops in court not on the side of the road. Right or wrong you will not win if you go all physical on a cop.
Many years ago when I was in my 20s, I flashed my lights to warn of a speed trap and it turned out to be an unmarked cop car. He spun his car in a 180 and immediately pulled me over. His face was literally beet red and he was screaming and yelling at me that I was interfering in efforts to catch speeders. In my opinion, I was helping the cause by forcing people to slow down.
Anyway, he didn't even give me a ticket. But was he ever pissed about it.
That’s fine, but if I fight back against a cop, I expect to be tasered, brutally man-handled, cuffed, jailed and taken before a judge but not shot dead 7 freaking times!
Which only highlights the truth. It’s not about safety, but about revenue.
Looks completely justified to me. A lawful order, as defined by the law, is any order that helps the officer effect his duties.
The young man had several opportunities to comply, but chose not to.
But why are we getting dumbsh_t kids who mouth back cops and even worse, think they can fight them? I've seen lots of these louts out there and if they survive their 20s, it'd be a miracle. Where the heck are their parents?
This kid's parents are partially to blame!
If you have been knocked to the ground, you don’t have a whole lot of leverage against somebody who is on top of you wailing away.
Once an officer has chosen to use his gun, he’s going to unload it until his target is neutralized. That is what they are trained to do.
Nope. The serfs are only allowed to kiss the asses and feet of the representatives of the ruling class. The best thing to do if you don’t want to get the hell beat out of you or killed is stay as far away from the police as possible.
If you start to attack a cop, expect to be shot. If you don’t want to be shot, don’t attack a cop.
