FACT SHEET: DONALD J. TRUMP’S NEW CHILD CARE PLAN
Trump-Pence ^ | September 13, 2016 | Staff

Posted on 09/13/2016 4:44:33 PM PDT by bobsunshine

NEW YORK, NY – Today Mr. Trump will proposes an innovative plan to bring federal tax policies in line with the needs of today's families. His plan is not for the wealthy, but rather provides the biggest benefit to working- and middle-class families. This plan is needed because child care expenses are one of the largest expenses in many families, complicating a family's decision on how to care for young children. The Trump reforms will allow a family to make the choice of whether a parent should work outside the home or not without bias from the tax code. Having employed and empowered thousands of women at every level throughout his entire career, Donald Trump understands the needs of the modern workforce.

Proposals Contained In Mr. Trump Child Care Plan

PROPOSAL: The Trump plan will rewrite the tax code to allow working parents to deduct from their income taxes child care expenses for up to four children and elderly dependents. •The deduction is available for taxpayers who take the standard deduction as well as itemize deductions, and will be capped at the average cost of care for the state of residence. Individuals earning more than $250,000 (or $500,000 if filing jointly) will not be eligible for the deduction. For a family earning $70,000 per year in the 12 percent tax bracket with $7,000 in child care expenses, the deduction would reduce taxes by $840 per year. •The plan will offer child care spending rebates to lower-income taxpayers through the existing Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). This could mean almost $1,200 per year per eligible family. •Mr. Trump's plan will ensure stay-at-home parents will receive the same tax deduction as working parents, offering compensation for the job they're already doing, and allowing them to choose the child care scenario that's in their best interest.

PROPOSAL: The Trump plan would create new Dependent Care Savings Accounts (DCSAs) so that families can set aside extra money to foster their children's development and offset elder care for their parents or adult dependents. These new accounts are available to everyone, and allow both tax-deductible contributions and tax-free appreciation year-to-year-unlike current law Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs), which are available only if it is offered by an employer and does not allow balances to accumulate. •When established for a minor, funds from a DCSA can be applied to traditional child care, after-school enrichment programs and school tuition-contributing to school choice. To help lower-income parents, the government will match half of the first $1,000 deposited per year. •When established for an elderly dependent, a DCSA can cover a variety of services, including in-home nursing and long-term care.

PROPOSAL: Mr. Trump's plan will provide regulatory reform to promote new family-based and community-based solutions, and also add incentives for employers to provide child care at the workplace. The ability to set aside funds will be particularly helpful to women, low-income workers and minorities, who are statistically more likely to reduce time working outside the home in order to provide unpaid care.

PROPOSAL: The Trump plan will guarantee six weeks of paid maternity leave by amending the existing unemployment insurance (UI) that companies are required to carry. The benefit would apply only when employers don't offer paid maternity leave, and would be paid for by offsetting reductions in the program so that taxes are not raised. This enhancement will triple the average paid leave received by new mothers.

We’re standing on the edge of a cliff, friend. Trump is the only possible rope with which we might be able to be rescued. Any other option involves horrible death.

I’m willing to compromise on relatively unimportant matters in exchange for not letting Hillary imprison me for life for my faith or not getting my head whacked off by Islamic nutjobs.

And despite this, Trump’s platform is STILL the most conservative that we’ve had since 1984 and perhaps longer.

How long have dems wanted this European socialist nanny state idea? Some conservative this guy will be, just like people told you in the primaries. We have voted in a blue dog democrat or better yet a rino and Republicans are going to call him conservative when he is no where near what we are supposed to stand for, but you people have fallen for the hate Bush II propaganda.

People have no memory or logic and propaganda easily persuades them. Yes, I understand this is a globalist vs American election not conservative vs liberal one but America is done either way, just slower enslavement to the state instead of fast enslavement to the new world order. Either way you are enslaved.

Might help Trump win but it would never pass a Republican controlled Congress.

Yeah. I agree.

Anyone who is totally freaked out by this:

Imagine what Hitlery will do in this regard....paid abortion leave, after the gov pays for the abortion. Paid “parental leave” for trans-whatever so the male/female/whatever gets leave after being artificially inseminated by 3 different something or others, ALL on gov dime.

I’m afraid that what we’re seeing is a major realignment of the parties in America.

The Democrat Party has moved more toward a European Socialist Party, and the Republican Party has moved toward the Blue Dog Democrat or east coast Republican Party.

Kind of a little earthquake moving everything a little to the left.

The Republican Party now stands for huge federal stimulus programs, not touching entitlements and expanded federal roles in such things as daycare.

These next few years will be difficult for small government conservatives. There just may not be a role for them in the American political spectrum anymore.

Maybe after the crash.

“Women ought to be incentivized to stay home and raise their children.”

If that’s the goal why stop at 6 weeks, let’s incentivize them to stay home until their child is 18. 18 year maternity leave paid by business, very “pro-family”, right?

Oh wait, we already do that, it’s called welfare. And it didn’t work out too well.

Government social engineering always inevitably ends in disaster.

The EITC is rife with fraud, and is basically welfare...re-think this part Mr. Trump:

“•The plan will offer child care spending rebates to lower-income taxpayers through the existing Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). This could mean almost $1,200 per year per eligible family.”

Proposed to garner support from women, eh?

Let me get this straight - stopping and even reversing the illegal invasion, setting the stage for an economic boom unseen in 30 years, taking care of our vets, putting an end to perpetual and senseless wars, respecting the Constitution and rule of law (for once) - is not good enough for these womyn to pull the lever for Trump?

If the prospect of saving this country from becoming another third world cesspool is not enough to secure their vote, we need a better caliber of woman in this country. Or repeal the 19th.

I haven’t heard one thing about SS. But the elderly here in Appalachia really have been hurt (like those in inner cities) by no “raise”.

I really do have faith that Trump will address the issue in time. First things first - I keep telling myself

Time to cut AMT to nothing for these same working parents. My wife and I get clipped big time for AMT such that we can’t even end up with a deduction for our kids and can’t even afford a nanny.

“Might help Trump win but it would never pass a Republican controlled Congress.”

No disrespect meant for you, NKP, but when was the last time a Republican controlled Congress did the right thing for America?

And worse, they’re not even ashamed of their lack of performance either.

“In the grand scheme, it’s fairly low cost and isn’t some “massive” government handout.”

When was the last ‘fairly low cost’ government handout not eventually turned into an out of control, massively expensive entitlement?

If it encourages working families to have children then I’m not against it at all. The birth rate is too low. This is a limited program by definition.

I understand your skepticism. Of course Congress can always expand such programs. That said, right now Trump needs to steal voters that are on the Dem fringe but like such a proposal. There’s too much on the line to be worried about such a proposal. The fact that I immediately saw liberal heads exploding was a sign this might have exactly the impact they’re going for.

I agree that child care is not affordanle, but I am concerned that once the child care centers realize that this is guaranteed money, prices will further increase a la health care. Without massive deregulation, this is bound to happen.

They’re always talking about how social security is going to go broke, but they NEVER say WELFARE is going broke.

There seems to always be enough money to hand out to people that won’t work or pay taxes.

So....let me get this correct.

My dad paid into Social Security for well over 46 years....Much of that time he paid double..as he was self-employed.

Well..as things happen he died at the age of 64. Never got one SS check...but you would have him labeled a "taker"..if he had lived another 20 years...collecting a SS check???

DO I HAVE THIS CORRECT?????
