Good Morning.

This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.

It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.

Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help!

To all who helped this get started and keep it running, thank you!

Special thanks to An.American.Expatriate for staring the daily threads, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, Ragtime Cowgirl for her Exclusive Live Transcription Service™, Fledermaus for his 15 minutes of fame, and, of course, Belly Girl...

I play the XBOX game, "HALO" with my son all the time, we play for hours on end as a team, one of the things that come to mind is when we do a fast attack and start destroying the enemy is the sounds they make like the grunts screaming, "Their Everywhere!!" I am getting a feeling thats what these street thugs are saying right now.

was taught in school that Baghdad was in the heart of "the fertile crescent." This area doesn't look all that fertile to me. The Iraqis need a lot of lessons in land maanagement.

Do you think they will let the Israelis come in and teach them to make the desert bloom?

You have to consider 45 years of Baath rule when you look at Iraq and Baghdad. The area used to be the jewel of the area, with highly educated, literate, cultural people. The literacy rate was near 100% when Saddam took over, now it is closer to 50.

If some of the Saddam debts can be relieved, and the schools rebuilt, and the oil reflowing... Iraq will be stunning again within 20 years.

I am just thinking... there has to be a history behind the phrase nervous nelly. If anybody is bored, they should research the meaning behind that phrase.

I believe that the term Nervous Nellie comes from the first lady Nellie Taft. Less than two months after the inauguration, Nellie Taft suffered a stoke, or as the Beverly Times of Tuesday May 18th, 1909 described, "a slight nervous breakdown." If anyone has a different explanation this has my curiousity sparked.
