Serious question about Brit Bashing on Free Republic...

Posted on 11/05/2004 2:53:54 PM PST by BritishBulldog

Just lately (noticeably since the US election result) there seems to be an awful lot of anti-British sentiment on here (there always was a little but I put that down to a handful of xenophobic kiddies)

What I would like to know is do most Freepers now share the low opinion that some (many) on here seem to have of our nation or is it just a small (but very vocal) minority of morons?

I've enjoyed this forum (for the relatively short time that I've contributed) and have always liked Americans in general, but I now find myself reconsidering my thoughts on both.

If we Brits are not liked or wanted around here, I think I'll probably discontinue my involvement.

Actually, I agree with Tony Blair when he pushes working on the Palestinian problem. Look, we're America. We're big. We can multitask. There's no reason why we can't deal with that problem as well, especially since it's purely diplomatic in nature. Eventually we're going to have to tackle that problem, and with Arafat about to leave us this is a golden opportunity.

Don't worry. Most people get their turn around here. :)

The British and Americans have stood side by side through dark periods.

A few on this forum make the mistake of seeing the British people through the eyes of the British media, much like folks overseas see Americans through the eyes of the elite media here in the U.S. .

Don't let the personal animus of some of the more emotional types get to you. I, for one, appreciate the perspective from across the pond.

I don't have a negative opinion of all Brits, just the ones who are mouthing off against the US.
I ASKED for British Freepers to tell us if this current negative stuff against the US and Bush is shared by a majority of British citizens or not. IF it is, then contempt is earned. If it's not, and the British press is like our own- liberal and not in touch with the common Brit- then British people, as a whole, should not be lumped in with the morons.
I don't think very much of the British Royals, but don't take that personally.

I'm of French extraction. My maternal and paternal great grandparents were from the Haut Garronne region, in the Pyrenees.
I thought they were nuts to leave a civilized country and come to the swamps of Louisiana. Now I'm glad they did.
France is a beautiful country- it's just full of Socialist French. I wouldn't give you a Euro for the lot of them, and if I have relatives there I sure don't want to meet them.

"No-one has ever identified a stoic gene."

Not yet they haven't. But give them time. It is more likely to be the interaction of several genes anyway or proteins interacting.

"Another factor is the lavish supply of proteins that switch genes on or off, such as the zinc finger family of proteins. This family has expanded independently in humans, yeast, fly and worm but humans still have twice as many zinc finger proteins as the fly and nearly five times as many as the worm. Meanwhile, proteins themselves can be modified, for example by enzymes snipping bits off them, or by the addition of sugars or fats to change their activity.

This builds into a picture of exquisite layers of control of genes and proteins, with genes being turned on and off, up and down, with extraordinary subtlety driving our development from fertilized egg to adult, and maintaining and repairing our bodies during the rigours of daily life."

"And also, please tell Tony Blair to shut the hell up about how "Mideast peace" is the most important problem in the world (it isn't; liquidating Islamofascism is)."

I have to agree with you on this.

I don't know what specific examples you're thinking of, but I can guess. However, I would caution you not to make generalized assumptions that it is "brit bashing."

I'd say that it is, instead, "idiot bashing of those twits in England who have made stupid statements." The British press (particularly the BBC) is almost universally hostile and hateful to all things American, and particularly vicious to our President and those who are "stupid enough to vote for him." I think we also realize that the same British press (particularly the BBC) is almost universally hostile and hateful to all things traditional and good in England.

We must have the right to heap scorn on those in England who are twits without being accused of globally "bashing (all) brits."

Registration, Deportation, Detainment and Internment are all words that I pray America won't need - but put up 1 dollar to one dime, after thousands or tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of Americans are slaughtered by American Muhammadans or Illegal Border Invading Muhammadans - it won't be up for debate and it could be too late. Does anyone else understand that, or everyone too young to remember how it goes dealing with blood-thirsty fascism idealogy?

"we only sent half our army to Iraq"

I thought I read that you only sent 9,000 troops to Iraq. Do you only have 18,000 troops in your army?

You need to read the thread that the posts were placed on. Do not generalize. We were reacting to your BARF Brit Press. we have the same problem as you with the MSM / press. Any "Brits" remarks were directed towards the Guardian and others. They basically called us Morons whereas they are Mooreons.

Personally, I posted "Brits: Kiss my Royal Irish A$$." and am proud of it, both my comment and my A$$. If it weren't for Blair, I would never be willing to forgive, based on my heritage. If it weren't for the Brits, there would be a lot more of us, both Americans and Irish. I have never heard the Brits apologize.

I presume you are, in a sense, apologizing or you would not seek our favor. Therefor, I personally forgive you. I found that the average Tommy is a great person. No one's government at any particular time truly represents all of the people. That is true in the present as in the past.

"These are not confortable biases."

I am not familiar with the word, confortable. I do not believe that it is an English word. Please define it for me.

I've never bashed a Brit on FreeRepublic! ;-)

Gentle teased? Yes!
Shown the 800 years of repression chip on my shoulder? Sure

But I'm Irish! 'Tis me mission in life! *LOL*

My ancestors were in Priors Marson and Feney Comptom in the 14th century.
They came to the U.S as debtors from debtor's prison's.
Fought the land, fought for freedom, fought for lost causes, and fought the world - twice.
Five hundred years later, there was my old man, dodging u-boats
while ferrying supplies to you blokes in WWII running from New York
to Liverpool while serving in the Merchant Marines.
I don't begrudge the Brits as a whole, but just like us yanks,
you have to admit, we both have our share of undesireables.
My observation is, "The world is just eat-up with dumasses."
They are everywhere you go.
