Elder Bush Would like Son Jeb to Run for President

George Bush, the president's father, would like to see another Bush in the White House someday, saying on Tuesday that he would want his son Jeb to run for president when the timing is right.

Florida Governor Jeb Bush has repeatedly said he does not plan to run for president in 2008, trying to dampen speculation that another Bush could be on the next Republican ticket for the White House.

In an interview on CNN's "Larry King Live," former President Bush said he would want Jeb to run for president "someday," but now was not the time.

"The timing's wrong. The main thing is, he doesn't want to do it. Nobody believes that," Bush said.

But he and wife Barbara both said they believed Jeb, 52, did not want to run in the next presidential race.

Bush said he did not have a favorite candidate for the Republican nomination to succeed his son, President Bush.

Barbara Bush said she believed Senator and former first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton would be the Democratic nominee in the 2008 presidential race. "I'm not going to vote for her, but I'm betting on her," she said.

You want to counter that by putting up someone with a long and well established record in public office.

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with you there. I believe we need someone as fresh and green as spring in the Oval Office. The Founders believed leaders from the private sector should run for elected office. Career politicians are going to be the death of our nation. I think someone who does NOT know "how things are done in Washington" is exactly what we need. We need a fresh (conservative) approach to the idiocy that is Washington, DC.

Ah, so this "new" court sanctioned murder is something "conservatives" or anyone else should not complain about if they have not complained about past murder via abortion? Sorry, that does not hold water.

I'm not sure why you keep trying to put words in my mouth that weren't there. That's two straight posts you've done this now. I never said conservatives couldn't complain about this, nor did I even suggest it. I just don't understand how it's OK for an individual to accede to the rulings of the courts in one situation, but not another, when in both cases lives are being taken.

It's an idea, floated awhile ago on Laz' thread about this particular troll.

Attacking the messenger rather than the message? I thought only our friends on the left did that?

I support Bush's foreign policy nearly 100%. But I find it hard to believe anyone can support his domestic agenda.

I agree completely. But I don't know how it would be done.

Well, we can ask, as a group, for the range of IP addies the troll has had.

I'm all for it, but I don't have the tech savvy to know how much that would help. Complain to the perp's ISP?

But there is also a world of difference between Cuban hispanics and Mexican hispanics. Could he handle the differences of those two ethnic groups?

He's violated so many things it's hard to know what to go after first.
He's obviously violated his provider's terms of service, he also is guilty of stalking and harassment.
We would probably have to, individually, get whatever info we could and file complaints locally with the courts.
We would need his IP addies.

back on topic...

I don't think the voters would vote for another Bush even if he WAS a great candidate. Americans have a thing against "dynastys".

Unfortunately, I think JEB is a great candidate. If GW had never run, JEB would have been a shoo in.

"Attacking the messenger rather than the message?"

I 'attack' both when appropriate.

[I'm certain that you don't wish to suggest that one should never question the personal bias/credibility of the 'messenger'? Debaters routinely address ETHOS, pathos, and logos!]

BTW: I do support MANY aspects of the President's domestic agenda. On the macro level, I support his emphasis on LIFE, ownership, accountability, and results. On the micro level, I support his focus on tax cuts, litigation reform, RESULTS-oriented/business friendly environmentalism, (strict constructionist) judges, educational testing/accountability, social security reform, life and marriage affirming legislation, and on and on and on.

President Bush is a conservative pragmatist (read Reagan incrementalist) and so am I.

That is a catch 22. If you send an outsider in then the bureaucracy will simply ignore them and leave them powerless.

" Jeb missed his opportunity... they'll have to buy him the Presidency now 'cause he'll never earn it."

How high do you suppose the price of gasoline will have to go for the oil-rich Bushes to buy Jeb the Presidency?

Is it just an accident that during his reign Florida has replaced CA as the wackiest state in the Union?

It's Karma.

Perhaps, but things aren't going so well for GW right now... And 51% of the vote is no mandate. Regardless of Hillarys performance as President should she win, I'm not so sure America would still favor another Bush down the road. However, that many years is lifetimes in politics.

Ronald Reagan was kind of a lame duck during his 2nd term with Iran-Contra Scandal. He was still a good President. We can say the same about President Bush. Anyway, when Hillary! wins 2008, Republicans will look back to the good old days when we had a Bush as our President.

Whoever is going to run for 2008 will most likely lose. Rice is not going to run, Frist cannot win, Allen is not well-known, others are RINOs, they cannot muster support from Conservatives.

So in 2012, Republicans will look to Jeb Bush as the man who can get the job done. He was supposed to be President today, not Dubya.
