President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.

Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

Zephyr Field is a minor-league ballpark 7.2 mi W of the city proper, about another 2 mi W is the I-310 interchange, which is the westernmost staging area to get people out.

Monday return not recommendedOfficials at the State Emergency Operations Center said Thursday morning that Jefferson Parish President Aaron Broussard's plan to allow citizens back to Jefferson Parish on Monday is not a good idea. The return, they said, would slow recovery and endanger lives.

This kind of crap can spread quickly. Houston needs to be prepared, too.

I can't believe what's going on. The underpinnings of society are coming off in Louisiana.

They have closed the parking garage in downtown BR. This is really a mess. Keep your gun with you at all times and don't hesitate to use it. If this keeps up martial law will be declared all over this state. Be careful!

Forty years ago when planes collided over Manhattan, I think, people cut fingers off of passengers' hands to get at rings.

Similar in Detroit when a flight crashed at/on I-94. The bodies were being looted within minutes.
