Katrina Live Thread, Part XIII

28,000 National Guard troops are deployed to the disaster areas in Mississippi, Alabama, and to Louisiana, where SWAT teams are working to combat the looters and shooters in New Orleans. Additional 1400 National Guard troops are being deployed daily.

Shootings reported at a New Orleans hospital, rescue boats, and a military helicopter, while conditions continue to deteriorate at the SuperDome amid refugee deaths and chaos. Evacuation of New Orleans continues.

House Speaker Dennis Hastert has voiced serious doubts about rebuilding New Orleans with federal funds, while assuring the people of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida that the United States Congress stands ready to help them in their time of need. New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin issued a "desperate SOS."

Doctors at two desperately crippled hospitals in New Orleans called The Associated Press Thursday morning pleading for rescue, "We have been trying to call the mayor's office, we have been trying to call the governor's office ... we have tried to use any inside pressure we can. We are turning to you. Please help us," said Dr. Norman McSwain, chief of trauma surgery at Charity Hospital, the largest of two public hospitals.

The Port of New Orleans is now open to shallow draft vessels. Congress is reconvening in an emergency session. International offers to assist the U.S. have been received from Russia, Japan, Canada, France, Honduras, Germany, Venezuela, Jamaica, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, China, South Korea, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, NATO and the Organization of American States.

It is what I expected. The REAL reason is that the democrats think their support of the President after 9/11 was a tactical error, allowing him a long stretch of time where he got media coverage and all was positive. So, in essence, they have decided to use the victims of Hurrican Katrina as a soapbox. They are despicabe, and I am not going to put up with it. And I wish someone would speak up for the President besides those of us on the internet. How about some of the Senators speaking up? I am so mad that I am spitting! Howard Fineman is a complete @&##*&@#!!!

They need to be called out by name. Senators/house members should be blasting the Mayor, the LSM and asking what they are doing to help? The media is clearly not attempting to help.

Bush was not slow on this, he was the one who had to convince the LA governor/mayor to evacuate new orleans.

I guess Newsweek wants to continue the trend of losing readership.

I am just sure that red state American really wants to read a "hit piece" on Pres. Bush after watching all of this for the last week...

AFTER, listening to Cindy Sheehan for 2 weeks....

The race card should be: Why did the Mayor issue a mandatory evac order and have NO MEANS to evacuate people that had no means to leave? Just how were they to comply?

Maybe the mayor and governor should have thought about that when they were running for office.
However, for one thing they could have used all the 100's of school buses and many, many city buses now under water.

If you ask me, I doubt any one would be echoing these race baiting comments if these folks were white or brown skinned.

They probably would not give a tinkers damn if this happened to evil Whites and Hispanics.

Race should never be the issue when it comes to life and death.

However, the black race baiter's and their smug elitists radical liberal white supporters would certainly like it to be that way.

So, in essence, they have decided to use the victims of Hurrican Katrina as a soapbox.

Like I said, they are almost joyful at the carnage.

A thousand bottles. A thousand bottles of what? We didn't care, and Chavez and I went roaring up the ramp with that hand truck and found a little blonde lady in sunglasses waving us over.

I have a thousand Bibles for you guys to bring down.

So that's what he said. And she wasn't kidding, either. We piled those bad boys up three feet high and an old cowboy with an HLSR badge on his shirt helped us get the thing back down the ramp.

Thank you for making me smile. After getting food, water and shelter, I know I'd want one.

I'm right there with you on that one. There was no excuse for some of it. If not trash bags at least locating in one location, away from people. Silly, I thought about it too. Volunteering to minimize the filth they were exposed to. It would have at least kept them somewhat constructive and involved in regards to their own care.

True. He can take it, though. I guess what I was keying on was when they were talking about the creation of the HSD. Congress has to take some of the blame for that unnecessary growth in the bureaucracy.
