28,000 National Guard troops are deployed to the disaster areas in Mississippi, Alabama, and to Louisiana, where SWAT teams are working to combat the looters and shooters in New Orleans. Additional 1400 National Guard troops are being deployed daily.

Shootings reported at a New Orleans hospital, rescue boats, and a military helicopter, while conditions continue to deteriorate at the SuperDome amid refugee deaths and chaos. Evacuation of New Orleans continues.

House Speaker Dennis Hastert has voiced serious doubts about rebuilding New Orleans with federal funds, while assuring the people of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida that the United States Congress stands ready to help them in their time of need. New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin issued a "desperate SOS."

Doctors at two desperately crippled hospitals in New Orleans called The Associated Press Thursday morning pleading for rescue, "We have been trying to call the mayor's office, we have been trying to call the governor's office ... we have tried to use any inside pressure we can. We are turning to you. Please help us," said Dr. Norman McSwain, chief of trauma surgery at Charity Hospital, the largest of two public hospitals.

The Port of New Orleans is now open to shallow draft vessels. Congress is reconvening in an emergency session. International offers to assist the U.S. have been received from Russia, Japan, Canada, France, Honduras, Germany, Venezuela, Jamaica, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, China, South Korea, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, NATO and the Organization of American States.

evidently Newsweek will be coming out with a HUGE hit piece on Bush next week.

That's in every issue of Newsweek.

Nice job Wolfie. Way to keep sending your network down the toilet ratings.
Even after the guy did the really good job of trying to show you the number of transportation outlets that had been destroyed and obscured.
How many reporters were out lifting trees off the roads?

No... What you are ashamed of is Blacks being portrayed as looting, murdering, pillagaging and raping...

And I got hammered last night for suggesting that if ANY disaster excercise had included planning for an inner-city population going nuts would have created a media/PC backlash...

Here's your proof, folks...

this Vitter is a real backstabber, not a word about the state and local breakdown. he's going to be the media's "chuck hagel" for this event.

I am really getting mad now, I'm going to try and find charities that are only focusing on the Mississippi and Alabama relief efforts. These Louisiana people are ungrateful, their elected officials are idiots, their police are cowards, their own populace looting and shooting up the relief efforts - forget it.

Now, Mary Landries wants the FEMA head guy's head on a stick; she wants a new "Cabinet level" appointment within 24 hours to oversee the disaster.

Re: DU call for Nagin for Pres:

After he stands with the President at the press conference and thanks the President, they'll change their mind.

Just saw Nagin get on the helicopter with the President, I guess for a tour of the city.

A doctor interviewed last night said the hosp had no elec. and limited food and water. They set up a mini government and rationed food and water to keep order. I'm losing all patience with the MSM showing all the bitching and moaning from ingrates that people are desperately trying to help. They keep this up and people will get disgusted and stop donating. I know that there are thousands that are so greatful for all the help. I wonder why the media can't find them....

"Karl, my mom just called me from DE, and my brother (Army reserves), who could not go to Iraq due to a medical problem, is leaving for MS in the morning. He has been told that his group will probably be doing body recovery. Already, the likelihood for disease and contamination is very great - he has been told to bring a change of clothes, military or otherwise, for each of the 14 days he will be gone. These guys are going to need meds and clean-up areas before and after the fact each day. Not sure what the policy for body containment will be after recovery. We're just at the onset of the problems we are facing, and that statement has nothing to do with the fall of NO..."

On the way to New Orleans, the Oklahoma National Guard spent the night at Canton where they all received "lots of shots" Reported by a local member to his wife.

There are now reports of CANNIBALISM in New Orleans. We have all feared it. Can anyone confirm or disprove it?

Yeah you can go at least a week without food its total balony. The only cannibalism I see is the dems trying to devour the President...

Randall Robinson is insane.

Is that the guy who was always introduced as head of the Transafrica group in the 1980s? I remember he first came to public attention as an anti-apartheid activist, but seemed to get more and more extreme once that victory was won.
