I've been waiting almost a month to say....

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.

You lose, 'Bots. The conservatives win. And though you may not believe it right now, the Miers withdrawal benefits ALL of us. It benefits the Bush administration, which has a chance to start fresh with a serious SCOTUS nominee that we can all respect and get behind. It benefits the Republicans in the Senate, who will no longer be forced to cast no-win votes on this nominee. And it benefits the Supreme Court itself, which may yet be saved.

The only people who have lost today are the Democrats. Miers getting to the Senate floor was a win/win for them: Confirm her and put her on the Court and Bush loses a huge bloc of conservatives for good, in such numbers that Congress could easily be turned over to the impeachment-hungry Dems. Reject her, and Bush has been handed a big and damaging defeat. In withdrawing, Harriet Miers has deprived the Left of EITHER option, and given her boss a chance to start clean and get it right. And in so doing, she has performed the best service she could for the American people.

That is what we did with Reagan LF! It is how the Reagan revolution came to be and coined the phrase "Reagan Democrat".

McCain is planning the exact same strategy and other may now have to do the same.

This event may be the catalyst that makes that possible.

"You should read your own posts to see how childish they are."

Sure, but while I'm reflecting on how your asinine namecalling might even obliquely apply to my posts, you read YOUR posts and consider how silly you moonbots look trying to dance to a tune that's not on the jukebox any more. You can spout that 'you hit us back, no fair!' whiny fingerpointing crap all you want, but the fact is we weren't the ones who jumped out of the block calling those who argued FOR Miers 'sexist, elitist, ignorant...' That's your camp doing the mudslinging, pal. And now you are trying the same old Clinton blame game to spin your loss of face, you were hurt by 'mean conservatives.' It must be that darn VRWC again.

You Rockefellers have already lost in the marketplace of ideas, because you have to pretend you're conservative to even run as Republicans. And now you've lost the Senate, too. The gauntlet's finally slapped you in the kisser--no RINOs need apply to the SCOTUS. Now, y'all need to follow the advice you're so eager to dish out--suck it up and back the new conservative nominee, we're all part of the same big tent, yada yada yada.

Oh, what a surprise, so many of you won't or can't do that?!?! Well, don't let the big tent flap hit you in the ass on the way out to DU.

"We needed you conservative hard right and libertine jackasses to get our president into the White House. You have worn out your welcome, and now you have made a mess. It's time you learned just who does the electing, and how the art of politics is employed, and you will find out soon enough the mistake you have made. I warned during Schiavo that is it did not stop, we would dump this coalition and begin anew. Now I am no longer warning, it's a done deal."

Good luck with that. I'm sure the Democrats will take you in with open arms. After all, you share the same goals, expanding the federal government and selling out the American people. We'll see who needs who to get elected, ol' RINO pal.

I did back up what I said with my logic, but you may continue to use the unsupported soundbites...

I know you enjoy doing it...

I've been seeing it on this forum for a number of years now.

Sort of a Bill Bennett move.......eh? :-) (nailed his butt tho)

I don't know if you are as important as you think you are but if what you want happens, what would be the difference between the two parties? I'm not being saracatic. Just curious. IMO the conservative right is what makes the difference now.

I didn't say what I was thinking and I regret thinking it now.

Sorry about being rude, even if I didn't say it.

Talk to you tomorrow.

I'm one who did support affirmative action so long as it was for a defined period of time.

You won't hear any complaints from me. The Civil Rights judicial oversight was intended to be a temporary, prophylactic measure. I see no reason why a narrowly-tailored racial affirmative action shouldn't follow under the same guise - find disadvantaged, talented minorities who showed potential and give them an extra boost.

In any case, I'm not yet convinced that Miers' conservative Christianity wasn't a part of the distaste some powerful persons had for her. I'll keep my eyes on that one to see that I hopefully am wrong.

It clearly wasn't the reason for my aversion. Indeed the "she's an Evangelical, hint, hint" whispering campaign alienated me, as an Evangelical. I felt pandered to.

I'm still not sure that this whole appointment wasn't some strategery that either backfired terribly or is working brilliantly.

I rather suspect it was like "New Coke" - they weren't brilliant enough to have come up with the New Coke flop as a marketing ploy to make everyone demand Coca-Cola Classic. Pres. Bush and his advisors miscalculated. Nothing more, nothing less. He probably figured, "Hey, my lawyer's done good work for me, she'd be a good Supreme Court justice." To a person unversed in the complexities of Constitutional law, that might even seem like a good idea.

Thanks! Too bad I had to post it. It's getting really old reading these posts which detail in glowing fiction how poor li'l Harriet was forced out by the evil mean lying conservatives. As if we were the ones who tried to appoint her. As if we were the ones who tried to first insult her way onto the SCOTUS like Rats ("You're elitist...no, sexist...no, ignorant...no, you hate Bush!"), then tried to toss out bones ("She's Evangelical! We're patrolling the borders now! We're cutting the budgets, we swear!"), and now are petulantly whining about how Miers was the Second Coming and all her opponents are AntiChrists and they can't stand to be around us members of the junior Satanists' club.

And they hate hearing peope call them on it. All you have to do is tell the truth, just as we did with Miers, and they start slamming you with lies and insults all over again.

The flop of Miers will force the conservatives to see the strength of the anti-nuclear option republicans in the Senate.
