A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day....07-10-06....Military Monday ~ Tribute to LadyX
Billie, The Mayor

Posted on 07/09/2006 8:59:29 PM PDT by The Mayor

A Few of FR's Finest
....Every Day
FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I could no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I had been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.
Still that didn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why we've created a place for just that. This is a friendly room in JimRob's house where FReeper FRiends can gather every day and just say hello if that's all they want to do.
There's more of course. We sometimes feature different FReepers, with a little background information on who they are and what makes them who they are, along with a few photos you might not have seen on other threads; sometimes others write an essay for us to post as the feature for the day; sometimes our presentation is a human interest story found elsewhere that you might not have read; sometimes special holiday threads; but whatever the topic of the day, it is always with FR's Finest in mind and that is YOU!
If you would like to be featured, or would like to see someone else featured, please send me a private FR mail.
Every Monday we will post the photos of FR's Military Personnel that I have collected and put into groups; these will be available to view through a link the remainder of the week - every day just a click away. :)   If you would like to add a photo of yourself or a loved one in the military, past or present, please let me know; I will hold it until I have enough for a new group.
Thank you, and please have fun with us...every day! ~ Billie

Cal, thanks for posting her posts. It will save me worrying about finding and posting them as I have lots of things I need to get done today. A very busy week preparing for ten days of camp meeting. But I did so want to have her words posted. Thank you a million.

Just one of the many beautiful stories from our Lady about meeting you and how you took care of her and the boys. God love you dear Bernie.

It's funny how some Freepers stand out in the crowd, or maybe we, as individuals, connect with certain ones. I still miss Chief Negotiator and Cobby (TexasCowboy), ofmagog, invictus, Clinton's a Liar, Clarity.....so many. Free Republic has been one interesting experiment in human relations. And it is truly unique in web-communities. I know of nothing like it. Blogs are boring.

Oh Maggie would love knowing that this beautiful song was included in her Tribute Thread.
Maggie & You & I chatted about Andrea Bocelli...
& Maggie helped me spell his name correctly!
Though I had to check again on the spelling
via your table.
Hard name to spell that one is!
But oh what a voice he is blessed with!
Celine too but this post is about Maggie's love for A B's voice.

Maybe late tonight after my meeting, I can type out some of the stuff I have. I really must go get some flier out around the county and an ad to the newspaper. Then a 7:00 meeting. No rest for the grieving.

My dear, LadyX, You will be missed by everyone.
I will miss the silliness that we shared.
I loved your sense of humor.

The Finest lights have dimmed since you left us.
RIP, Maggie.

What wonderful tributes there are here for Maggie!
Tears come, but they are comforting, too.
I made this post for Maggie when she told me she loved pansies
some months ago. She was a great cheerleader when I learned
how to post my flower posts.
Pansies are a "happy" flower and Maggie was a joyful person....
She had joy in the Lord, joy in her family and joy in her friends.
Whenever I see a pansy I will be reminded of the laughter, love,
faith and joy she shared with all of us.
Whenever I think of Marines, I will recall her great courage
and strength.
I know there is great joy in Heaven.

You're welcome.
I wish I'd have come to FR sooner.
Or at least the start of The Finest & Dose Threads to be able to have the history that you all share/shared.
With Maggie ;LOUIE;Mama Bear All Y'all that I am getting to know now.
I wish I knew then too.
Then I'd also have had the opportunity to know
Maggie much better.

Maggie's forefathers. She came from good stock.

Actually, I am indebted to King George of the 1600's, snugs.

My forebear through my maternal grandfather, was Thomas Smith, who went to Charles Town in The Colonies, and was rewarded by the King with a number of *landgraves* - each one 42,000 acres of Carolina land. [It was not divided into North and South Carolina until 1729, and he later became a governor of the vast territory, from 1693-1694.]

He was a very successful shipping merchant, planter, the town surgeon and mayor of Charles Town. As was common at that time, when his wife died giving birth, he married quickly to provide a mother to the child and his older ones.

His choice was the widow of the Dutchman who created Medway Plantation west of town. Most of the bricks used in building Charles Town came from there.

With a large family and his shipping business, they lived opposite that in his house right across the street from the river.

In the Spring Plantation Tour of 1968, my sister Anne and I did the all day, 3-county circuit of famous plantations, and Medway was the last stop.

Not being snobbish, and a tad irreverent, we took photos of one another by "Papa Tom's" gravesite..:)) At the time, I lived just 6 miles from it, but it is open to the public only once a year.

Now I know I'm losing it, not remembering that invictus posted to me in May. Old age has its disadvantages. Sigh. How are you, invictus?

Thanks for putting this video together for us. That silly dog was so funny on the slide and Maggie was having so much fun (and so young), it's a nice way to remember her.

Hi, Cal. I went looking to find it also . Thought maybe it was on the "Alaska" thread that I posted last October, but looks like it wasn't. However, in the process, I found some wonderful posts by our Maggie about her time spent there. Alaska was one of her favorite topics and she could sure tell a good story!

North to Alaska!
