Will FR embrace socialism to make way for Rudy Giuliani as a Republican presidential candidate?
vanity | April 21, 2007 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 04/21/2007 6:42:25 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

We've got some real challenges facing us. FR was established to fight against government corruption, overstepping, and abuse and to fight for a return to the limited constitutional government as envisioned and set forth by our founding fathers in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution and other founding documents.

One of the biggest cases of government corruption, overstepping and abuse that I know of is its disgraceful headlong slide into a socialist hell. Our founders never intended for abortion to be the law of the land. And they never intended the Supreme Court to be a legislative body. They never intended God or religion to be written out of public life. They never intended government to be used to deny God's existence or for government to be used to force sexual perversions onto our society or into our children's education curriculum. They never intend for government to disarm the people. They never intended for government to set up sanctuary cities for illegals. They never intended government to “rule” over the people and or to take their earnings or private property or to deprive them of their constitutional rights to free speech, free religion, private property, due process, etc. They never intended government to seize the private property of private citizens through draconian asset forfeiture laws or laws allowing government to take private property from lawful owners to give to developers. Or to seize wealth and redistribute it to others. Or to provide government forced health insurance or government forced retirement systems.

All of the above are examples of ever expanding socialism and tyranny brought to us by liberals/liberalism.

FR fights against the liberals/Democrats in all of these areas and always will. Now if liberalism infiltrates into the Republican party and Republicans start promoting all this socialist garbage, do you think that I or FR will suddenly stop fighting against it? Do you think I'm going to bow down and accept abortionism, feminism, homosexualism, global warming, illegal alien lawbreakers, gun control, asset forfeiture, socialism, tyranny, totalitarianism, etc, etc, etc, just so some fancy New York liberal lawyer can become president from the Republican party?

Do you really expect me to do that?

So, what do you like best about the new decor? Is it the new coffee table, the pretty tray on the coffee table, or the cookies in the tray?

It is the atmosphere. It is brighter, and the air has been purified. The negative particles are gone, the bullies are gone and I won’t miss them jumping on prolife threads to start fights just for sport. You asked!

Our God-given unalienable rights are not open to debate, negotiation or compromise!

Amen.

Sir, while 'success' with online sites is typically considered in number of page-views or the number of users who might donate, your courage in being willing to substantially reduce the number of users in order to fight for PRINCIPLES is commendable. And like you, I'd rather fight than switch!

So what IS your mother's lefse recipe? Don't just brag about having it, share!

Uff da! Well, here it is verbatum but you have to fill in the blanks. Mom didn't like to waste a lot of words.

Lefse

6 cups flour

salt

2 cup boiling water

1/2 cup butter

egg,milk, glazing.

Well, that is it.

The Household Searchlight of 1938 is tabulated, so easy to sort through. We have worn the tabs to unreadable over the years, but it still works, sort of. But even if the book were to be cooked, Mom's lefse is better.

Hmmm, are we a little off-topic?

Well, Mom kept her kitchen secrets to herself and didn’t figure we boys would know a darned thing about cooking anyway. So that is it. You get the above ingredients and make lefse out of it. I guess anyone who makes lots of lefse would know what to do with it, but I sure don’t.

Mom’s next recipe is for fattigmand and that is even more short. It is blank. But I sure liked it when she made it, and miss it.

Fattigman Bakkels
(Poorman's donuts/cookie)

Beat three eggs to a froth; add 3 teaspoonfuls of sugar, one tablespoonful of cream, and a pinch of salt; put in flour enough to make a stiff dough; roll as thin as paper; cut into any shape you like (triangle, squares) and fry in hot lard like doughnuts. (Just a few seconds)

:(

My sister got a couple family recipes from my grandmother. She sat down and watched her make the stuff one day and estimated (pretty well). But she didn’t get her homemade bread. :((

You can do doughnuts or such very easily with the "tube" doughs readily available in any grocery. Biscuit dough, e.g. Get the big ones and cut out the doughnut hole. Cook in hot oil, but not very hot. They have to kind of simmer for two or three minutes, or else they either get too brown before the inside cooks (ugh). Then blot on a paper napkin and roll in cinnamon sugar. Not diet food.

You could probably use pie crust dough to make fattigman. My mother used left over crust to make nifty little tarts.

I'm going to explore these fine points later today :-)

Here's something else from Norway that might be of particular interest in Free Republic :-)

Troll cream (Trollkrem)

1 egg white
1 pt cleaned lingonberries
1/2 c sugar

Mix and beat until thick, light and fluffy. Can be served with vanilla sauce. If it's too tart, try adding a bit of crushed banana. Lingonberry jam can be used instead of fresh lingonberries.

(The recipe does not tell us how to use Trollkrem, but it would be lovely on fattigman. On a fresh fruit salad, too.)

Your lefse: work ingredients into a dough, refrigerate, roll thin, cut out manageable pieces of whatever shape you like (some use pot lids for cutting the dough), fry in deep fat or on a greased skillet.

Lefse are often made with potatoes and flour. (Shhh! You can use instant mashed potatoes for this. In fact it saves a lot of time and bother.)

Here is a Minnesota staple :-) I trust I need not translate?

Yew tak yust ten big potatoes
Den yew boil dem till dar done.
Yew add to dis some sveet cream
And by cups it measures vun.
Den yew steal tree ounces of butter
An vit two fingers pinch some salt.
Yew beat dis wery lightly
If it ain't gude it iss your fault.
Den yew roll dis tin vit flour
An light brown on stove yew bake.
Now call in all Scandihuvians
Tew try da fine lefse yew make.

One other comment on lefse. Take a fresh piece. Put on butter. Put on sugar. Fold in two, like a sandwich. Eat.

Deb, I was just telling a friend about you that used to post here at FR. Pretty much said what dirtboy said. I lurked from '99 to '00 and I LOVED your posts. I laughed so hard at your quick biting wit. Literally out loud.
I was too afraid of you to sign on. ;)
Thanks for the good times. I will never forget you.

Disregard my previous cooking directions. Lefse is baked on a dry griddle. Do not cook in hot oil or even fry it on a greased skillet. It would taste good and you could heap it with Troll Cream, but it wouldn’t be lefse.
