I'm not going to call Bill O'Reilly a liar... yet, but...

Posted on 07/31/2007 8:35:37 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

I'm not going to call Bill O'Reilly a liar... yet, but... on his TV show today, he read off a laundry list of ridiculous "hate" statements like "I hate blacks," "Hillary should be assassinated" and "homosexuals are dogs" that he said he personally found on Free Republic and claims that they were posted here today. I do not believe that. I doubt that he personally logged on to FR and I doubt he found any such thing posted here today.

Who knows what we may have missed and is buried deep in our archives of millions of posts, but our readers do a pretty good job of alerting us to anything out of bounds that is posted and we pull it. Also, one of our readers found a couple of the quotes he alleges, and if they are the ones O'Reilly is complaining about, he took them way out of context. They were simply quotes in the articles posted not statements posted by FReepers.

As soon as he provides me a list of the alleged posts and their URLs, I'll believe him. If he doesn't... then... well, guess he'll deserve to be known as what he is.

I want to know why he couldn’t give Kristinn the printouts he held in his hands during the broadcast?

What would Kristinn have wanted with BOR's grocery list and three blank sheets of paper?

He probably found them from Steve Young. The guy who pre-wrote the article on Huffington Post.

Because they had to deflect the Kos attacks re: Jet Blue.

Okay... the Hillary statement... may have been me. I haven’t been too nice to her lately, but I used prayer offsets as well as confession. /s

I would like to know why he thinks a paid moderator would do a better job than a volunteer. That was a stupid suggestion IMO. Money can’t buy integrity, and it’s insulting to suggest that money would make someone more diligent than the moderators we have. It’s another example of O’Reilly letting his mouth exceed his alleged intellect.

It's also ludicrous to think that "a" moderator could screen the entire site, even a paid one. He's either math-impaired, or he didn't do his homework.

You are therefore an anti-jellybeanite, as all of the candies are of the same race, just different flavors.

If you only like a certain color jellybean, does that make you a beanist? What would Carlos Mencia say?

I saw on FOX that Dennis Miller is going to be on BOR tonight and talk about “hate speech” - whatever that means.

The fact that Bill O’Reilly chose to make FreeRepublic look bad in the eyes of the viewing public, tells a lot more about him than it does about FreeRepublic. We know who we are. But Mr. O’Reilly wants people to believe that we are just one more biased online site, punctuated by the ever-present voices of hate. Of course, he is wrong, but he has an agenda. His agenda is one of striking back at FreeRepublic for what many of us have seen in him and noted here online. He is a shameless, self-promoting TV personality who pretends to be a populist, but is, in fact, a self-serving egomaniac, who believes that his camera and microphone make him a king.

"..I want to know why he couldn’t give Kristinn the printouts he held in his hands during the broadcast?.."

Good Question!! There is no reason.

I have not heard from Kristinn today, but he said he asked for the material after the show. Where is it?

There are posts with hateful sounding speech that are posted on here. I’ve not read many that sound like the Daily Kos or DU on their extreme end, but I’ve read some that BO might glom on to and try lumping us in with the Left. I’ve complained mightily about those kinds of posts. Lots of us have done so. That’s another thing that seperates us from the Lefty sites, that those kinds of posts are subject to plenty of blowback from others here. Of course BO isn’t going to explain that, or anything else that doesn’t fit his own program agenda.

LOL, can you image a paid moderator who could moderate one of the 24 thread.

I can not even keep up with it and I skip over at least 25 posts at a time.

Hi, AliVeritas! Someone may have answered this already, but here goes: O'Reilly and Ford were in the Fox headquarters in New York, and Kristinn was in a studio in DC with only an earpiece. He was not even provided a video monitor to see O'Reilly while the interview was in progress.

It has taken me over 3 hours to read every post of just this thread (476 posts) and make a couple of replies. That's a rate of about 2.6 posts per minute.

I’ve watched O’Reilly from when he started. He said those postings he cited were from that very day.

Not only is the posting charge incorrect, the charge is clearly nonsense. And he was waving the paper like he had the “facts” of it there.

He really, really needs to be corrected.

To compare FR to the DKos (even in passing) is s like comparing the terms “cut the mustard” and “cut the cheese”.

If BOR’s allegations can be substantiated then his reporting “cuts the mustard”. If not... Let’s just say something stinks.

I await and recommend an *official* reply from FR. BOR needs to be informed of his mistake at the very least, and if a retraction is not forthcoming, he should be called upon the carpet.

An offense of this magnitude cannot be allowed to stand.

Perhaps his radio audience will set him straight.

Thanks a bunch for this great site. Thanks go out also to the magnificent Mods, whose good work is tainted by this unsubstantiated charge.

As rowdy as the many, many discussions can be here, I am sure one could cherry-pick the threads to manufacture any type of accusation- But it is assured to be taken out of context. The general tenor here is nothing close to what BOR has described.
