Karen Inbody has just about three weeks to figure out Plan B.
The 58-year-old divorcee has been getting by on unemployment compensation since her layoff in early 2008, but shes nearly reached the end of her benefits.
And even though she's applied for dozens of jobs, the former rental property manager has come up empty.

Pass the word.
I feel bad for her, she’s got a hard road ahead no doubt about it.
“...but shes nearly reached the end of her benefits.”
Cool. This will help obama’s stat and count as part of the 3million jobs he saved.
What a load of crap! I recruit for a 50 state mortgage bank and a Texas security/bodyguard company. They’re both hiring! I still see “Help Wanted” signs here and Craigslist, Monster, CareerBuilder, HotJobs, NationJob, Dice and many others are full of positions. When they all dry up I’ll start believing this.
>> “There but by the grace of God go I.”
You got that one right.
Although, given all that has transpired with the economy, I hopefully would have been planning my career change out of “rental property management” for some time now, and been well along with “plan B” already.
Um, she should have applied for well more than dozens of jobs if she has been out of work since early 2008. Still, I feel bad for her. It’s easy to say go back to school for retraining etc., but that’s not easy if you have a family and need the income etc.
shhhhhhhhhh. You are ruining her pity party.
18 months of government benefits???
And even though she's applied for dozens of jobs, the former rental property manager has come up empty.
18 months and could not find one job???
Id shovel horse poop, she says wearily. I havent even found one of those jobs available.
18 months and could not find one job, not even shoveling sh*t. Not even minimum wage at McDonalds. I CALL SUCH BS! Do reporters even ask commonm sense questions anymore?
I got my layoff notice this morning after nearly 28 years with the company. They are clearing out senior employees to save money, but are clever enough to cull out enough junior ones to avoid a discrimination suit.
Dozens!?
Pffft.
Keep at it. I put out over 100 resumes before being hired after my last layoff.
If you have no job, your full-time job is to GET A JOB. Work at it 8-12 hours a day.
"I am woman, hear me roar."
Sorry to hear that. I hope you find a lot of doors opening up for you.
And your unemployment benefits could be higher while you look for work, if not for the democrats insistance on providing 18 months of “unemployment benefits” to their voters, to keep them beholden to the taxpayer money the democrats use to buy votes.
maybe she should start a horse pop shoveling business of her own
almost any woman who wants a job as a baby sitter or nanny can get one, or start her own business. ditto with petsitting,
Low skilled workers like those in the story are facing competition for the low end jobs with unemployed, college-educated people. It’s even harder for older workers, who would have a difficult time when the economy is good.
Unemployment is over 10% in indiana.
she’s 58..now tell me, what sort of bodyguard/security company would hire a woman at that age, and from the picture, not exactly in the shape required to perform those functions???????
It’s very easy for people to criticize, but if you’ve never been in that position, it’s utterly impossible for people to understand.
“Go get a job, any job” is a good slogan, but with rent/mortgage, car/truck payment, utilities, credit cards and God knows what else, how on earth is $10-$12 per hour, IF they can beat out the 20 year old with many, many more years to contribute, going to pay for that?
I am excited about what adventures He has in store for my son and I!
