Trenton, NJ (LifeNews.com) -- After the New Jersey state Senate defeated an attempt to override the decision of Gov. Chris Christie to cut off state taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood abortion businesses, the first facility run by the national abortion giant is closing.
The Cherry Hill Courier Post newspaper says a Planned Parenthood facility located on Haddonfield Road and operated by Planned Parenthood of Southern New Jersey will close down.
PP-SNJ stands to lose as much as $160,000 in taxpayer funds because of Christie's decision and the upholding of his veto. With the closing of the Cherry Hill center, Planned Parenthood customers seeking abortions or other "services" must go to PP centers in Camden, Bellmawr, and Edgewater Park.
Parenthood of Southern New Jersey president Lynn Brown told the newspaper, "We are in think mode and creative mode and we are doing all that we can to try and salvage to see as many people as we need to see."
"We all know it's strictly ideological," Brown said of the funding cuts to the abortion business. "This is a very frustrating and perplexing time for us."
While the Cherry Hill center does not do abortions, it gives abortion referrals to Planned Parenthood offices in Hamilton Square, Princeton, and Trenton where abortions are done on women and unborn children.
Marie Tasy, the head of New Jersey Right to Life, told LifeNews.com she applauded the state Senate for not overriding Christie's veto of the Planned Parenthood funding bill.
"We applaud the Senators who voted No to override Governor Christies veto of S2139," she said. "This debate was never about health care, it is about advancing a political agenda and rewarding 'friends' and a radical special interest group with our tax dollars."
"We commend Governor Christie for his steadfast opposition to eliminate waste, fraud and abuse and for working to promote the best health care for all NJ citizens," Tasy added.
Christie won the praise of pro-life advocates in July by vetoing a bill that would restore the family planning funds his administration cut from the state budget because of deep economic troubles.
Although it doesn't fund abortions directly, the money goes to the Planned Parenthood abortion business. The funds go to 58 family planning clinics but Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion chain, runs 29 of the facilities.
After Christie cut the funding, the state legislature approved a bill to restore it and they approved the bill he vetoed on a 30-10 vote on the Senate, more than enough to override.
However, Republicans who supported the bill would not buck their party's governor by supporting the override vote.
Although a majority of the Senate voted to restore the abortion businesses' funding, the Senate voted on a party-line 23-17 vote, well short of the two-thirds needed to override.
good news ping!!!
It’s nice to see that the poor economy is starting to take a toll on the baby killers.
Nah, can’t be. The die-hard Steve Lonegan fans insist Chris Christie is a social liberally RINO and no different than Rudy Giuliani or Christine Todd Whitman. They wouldn’t knowingly lie about his positions, would they?

Another point that could and should be made, entirely aside from right-to-life, would be to point out that the state is running out of money, this is not a mandated function, and cuts have to be made somewhere.
Abortion is, and always has been, a luxury that has no medical benefit. It is ludicrous that taxpayer money should go to funding unnecessary luxuries.
Yes, the “luxury” of private murder.
WooHoo! Another one for my list!
I like Christie more and more!!

As fractious as this issue is, I have no understanding of why it is ever supported with tax dollars!
$160K would fund a lot of little league activity helping boys and girls to get fit and have fun!
May God bless Chris Christie.
Add Columbia, Missouri (College Town) to the list.
In my best Jerry Seinfeld voice: That’s a shame.
Good news. I don’t know if he’s pro-life, or if he did it to save taxpayer money used to kill babies, but I’ll certainly take it.
A lot of politically correct stuff wastes money as well as being immoral. For instance, how much does it cost to pay for sex change operations for prisoners? Is this really something the government should be doing? Or how much does it cost to put in extra bathrooms in public colleges to suit the gender benders who demand them?
Social conservatism and fiscal conservatism are often in alliance. How much, for instance, do you save on jails and police if people are brought to religion and taught to discipline themselves?
He does hold pretty much the same “personal” views as Rudy, but good leaders separate personal from professional.

May this be the beginning of a nationwide trend. Taxpayer monies should NOT go to Planned Barrenhood!
Look at this & in NJ! wow!
That’s the way to do it.
There are a couple of other reasons as well, the Obama Economy has had this effect as well as fewer people conceiving children, lost birth rate since the depression.
Also, the United States is getting older and fewer people of childbearing ages are in these states.
This is nearby where we live and is the site of frequent prayer-protests. If this death-mill actually closes, then thank God! Prayers have been answered.
I think that trend might be close to reversing itself, however. During the Depression, families helped out at home, children helped in businesses, etc. etc.
I know I grew up on a farm and there wasn’t that much that we really got from the grocery store except fresh fruit and of course, baking and canning supllies.
lots of sweet corn since my dad was a seed corn dealer
our own milk because we ran a small dairy.
Fairly self-sufficient. I’m the oldest of seven (six living) children and we all helped out in our own way.
PRAISE GOD! How many children will now live because of Chris Christie and the Assembly members who voted to sustain his veto? Probably hundreds, at least. It’s a start. ALL government funding of abortion must end.
This is fantastic news.
Thanks for the list, Salvation.
The money cut, the guy said, was “just ideological.”
Yes, but no.
It’s ideological in the sense that Christie doesn’t agree with abortion.
But, it’s not ideological in that it’s an unnecessary expense for taxpayers to be funding. If the abortionists need a “finding agency” like PP, then let them fund it.
Higher costs per abortion when there isn’t government funding? That’s what they call the free market.
Wonderful day for the children of New Jersey.
From Sewer of the East Coast to shining beacon of hope to America.
I might start watching Jersey shore again.
