I just sent Chester an email:

"Dear Senator Lott,

If you had a chin, I'd tell you to keep it up. In the mean time, don't do anything rash. Weather this storm!

Thanks for all you have done for us in the past Chester.

Rich"

I have to disagree with you...while I do NOT want him to resign his seat - he does not deserve to be majority leader - not bwcause of this - but because his spineless cow-towing to the Democrats every chance he gets - and that sham of a show trial of IPOTUS der Schlickmeister.

All the support I've seen spoken for Lott is based on pure partisan politics. Could some of the conservatives here give a reason to support his remaining as leader based on something other than the R after his name, I can't come up with any.

AMEN!!! Why should we eat one of our own just to make Jesse Jackson and the rest of the professional race baiters happy? I agree that Lott stinks as Majority Leader, the Senate rules regarding the Impeachment Trial were an affront to the Constitutuon and his limp wristed power sharing with the 'Rats made me sick and for either of these two reasons I'd like to see him go. But not now...not to appease Jackson and Sharpton and the rest of those goons. No Way.

Listen, we have to look at the *BIG* picture here.

The Dems are orchestrating this barrage against Lott so that the Senate Republicans get new leadership, not because of their superficial moral outrage.

If the next leader is a STRONG Conservative Republican, do you realize that the LIBERAL-LEANING Republicans will be wined and dined to pull a switch just like Jim Jeffords.

So the new STRONG Conservative Leader that we all WANT might only last a few weeks!!

GET IT?!

Could that be because the position of Senate Majority Leader is a PURELY political posistion. D'ya think?

Based on the initial remarks he made, he stated that he wished Thurmond had won the election back in '48 and the U.S. would have been a better country. I doubt if Lott knew all the details of Thrumond's agenda beyond the fact that it was a conservative one. I'm a politically active conservative about Lott's age and I didn't even jnow Thurmond ran for office in '48. Segreation may have been a part of Thurmond's agenda, but I doubt it was all of it, and Lott isn't the first politician to develope a case of foot-in-mouth- itis. It isn't that Republicans are more prone to this, its just that the media is selective in its targets.

As for the slimeballs in the news media dragging up Lott's past and alleged segregationist activities, this was common 40 years ago with many whites and not all of them were in the south. The important thing is what Lott thinks at present, and a congrtaultory remark praising a 100 year old man is hardly indicative of a continuing pattern of racism.

If Lott is removed on this basis, that senile old bastard Byrd from West Virginia should follow him as he was an active member of the Ku Klux Klan, and Bill Clinton's $200,000 + allowance from the American people should be cut off because he gave an award to Senator Fulbright from Arkansas, a former segregationist.

I also don't particularly care for Lott as he is a poor leader and not aggressive enough with the DemocRATs. On the other hand, its time for the Republicans to unbuckle their belts, pull down their pants, and check to see if they still have a complete set of testacles.

If a Democrat had said what Lott said, the media, the NAACP and the other left-wing thought NAZIs in the country would have ignored it.

The Republicans, by dumping Lott, will lose far more votes among white southerners than they will ever gain from blacks anywhere. If the fact that black activists can make such a tempest out of teapot over this in the face of an administration which has two highly visible black Americans in positions of high and visible power no DemocRATic regime ever had them in, says a lot about the hypocracy of these groups and their hidden agenda.

Actually it might be best for the Republicans if Lott resigns as Majority Leader, and somehow it's made to look like Sharpton had a big say in the matter (maybe Lott could meet with Sharpton for "spiritual counseling" then resign!)

If Lott's still in power in 2004, he'll make a strong get-out-the-vote campaign poster-boy for the Dems. If Lott's out but Sharpton is a big face for the Dems, then Sharpton will rally Independents against the Dems.

He must go as leader. He was spineless for the show trial. He was foolish with the "power sharing" agreement. He's not been able to move the House bills along. He wasn't able to break the log-jam on Bush appointees. He's U-S-E-L-E-S-S. And now he's become a lightening rod for the Dems *entirely* of his own making.

We're not talking about a brilliant parliamentarian here. If he has even a scintilla of party loyalty he'd best be leaving his leadership post at 4:30pm Central when he holds his press conference. He cannot put himself above the agenda for the nation, for the party. This is an OPPORTUNITY for the GOP and in no way a loss.

Well, this whole episode just goes to show you what happens to a mealy-mouthed senator who tries to be all things to all people. Lott is gone, and I can't say that I'm that upset about it. He's gone quite out of his way to keep the people happy who would stab him in the back at a moment's notice, and those same people are doing JUST THAT as I type. I don't think he'll resign his seat, but he will surrender the leadership. His efforts to kowtow to dims/libs over the years has been hugely unsuccessful (i.e. the Wellstone funer-rally), and at the same time cost him support in his own party. Anyway, hopefully he's out, and as conservatives we need him out to make way for someone with a little more backbone to take over the majority leadership. Lott would have squandered any advantage the GOP had in the senate within months anyway. Good riddance.

It bothers me when I hear conservatives and liberals calling for Lott's resignation. What Lott said has been distorted and blown way out of proportion. This is just another play from the democrats playbook. After they get Lott they will be looking for the next republican to destroy with their politics of personal destruction. And the destruction will go on and on and on!

NOW President Says Trent Lott is Unfit to Lead Senate

December 12, 2002

"Sen. Trent Lott's racist and sexist comments are outrageous and his apology is insufficient," said NOW President Kim Gandy. "The latest revelations offer ample evidence that Lott is unfit to assume a leadership role in the Senate. He should step down as a candidate for Senate majority leader or the Republicans must select someone who appreciates the progress made in this country over the last 50 years."

At Strom Thurmond's 100th birthday celebration, Lott expressed support for the Senator's 1948 presidential campaign, run on the Dixiecrat platform which stood for "the segregation of the races and the racial integrity of each race." Lott suggested that if Thurmond had been elected president, the U.S. "wouldn't have had all these problems over all these years."

Reports now reveal that Lott made an almost identical remark about Thurmond at a rally for Ronald Reagan in 1980. "Feminists who are familiar with Lott's history and his record in the Senate are not surprised by his sentiments. What he sees as a lack of judgment, we see as a lack of character," Gandy said.

...... lack of character from people that kill babies? Hummm

Action Alert FROM NOW 11/8/2002 Tell the Judiciary Committee NO on Judicial Nominees November 8, 2002 Action Needed: The Judiciary Committee's plan to bring the nominations of Dennis Shedd and Michael McConnell to the floor for a vote must be derailed. There is NO reason why Sen. Leahy (D-Vt.), the current chair of the Committee, has to schedule this vote;

it is rumored that his reason is to give the outgoing Sen. Strom Thurmond (R-S.C.) a gift on his 100th birthday as he departs the Senate at the end of this session. Sen. Thurmond has been Judge Shedd’s sponsor, mentor and former employer, having had him on his staff years ago.

If Lott's out but Sharpton is a big face for the Dems, then Sharpton will rally Independents against the Dems.

Sharpton will NEVER rally anybody except white hating blacks. He is a racist, bigotted liar and anyone familiar with the Tawanna Brawley incident or with any of his activities since then knows this. If this is still an issue at the next election...and that's a long way off...then I'll concede that blacks may be motivated to turn out. So what? That racial turnout will likely cut both ways.
