Good Morning.

This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - LIVE THREAD.

It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.

Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A brief description of what the graphic is would help!  If you post graphics, please "size" them so that our browsers continue to load the rest of the thread!

Great piece by Dick Morris in the NY Post:

MEDIA MELTDOWN

"In the Iraq War, the public may well have learned not to trust the broadcast networks or the establishment newspapers."

[SNIP]

"The result has been a major shift in American media/news habits.

While CBS viewership dropped 15 percent from pre-war totals, ABC fell 6 percent and NBC gained an anemic 3 percent, the Fox News Channel audience rose 236 percent while CNN and MSNBC (with smaller audiences) recorded similarly impressive gains.

On morning TV, the cable show Fox and Friends actually drew 2.9 million viewers, more than CBS' 2.8 million on its Early Show - the first time a cable news station has beaten a network news program in ratings (but not the last).

Among younger viewers (18-34), CBS Evening News fell 16 percent while Fox News Channel gained fivefold."

Can you possibly send that to the writer of the column just to let him know we're on to his agenda? Thanks for the example of hypocrisy.

CBS reporterette on BagCam doing her little part in painting a bleak picture of Baghdad.
Residents complaiing about lack or water, lack of electricity, lack of phone service...blah, blah, blah.

Yes. This place probably has so many astounding true stories that it would be riveting if we were able to hear them all.

Carolina: Ha Ha! We're on the same reading schedule!

Joe:

Ugh! I'll never forget the sinkmeister's noodle salutes. I found this old Nightline interview with Anthony Lake, chairman of the Nat'l Security Council (ugh, again):

"...George Stephanopolous writes in his book that the president's early salutes looked different, and his fingers drooped, and there was a concern that it wasn't snappy enough, and that they had a discussion about who would teach him how to salute. George hadn't been in the military. They thought it would be inappropriate for the vice president. And so you [Lake] were chosen."

It also discusses that the meister didn't WANT his salutes to be too crisp, lest he look gung-ho to his Hollywood friends.

Excuse me while I barf.

But see, beatings are better for them since it keeps law and order. They've learned to deal with, why'd we have to go and ruin it all.

So true, so true.

Its history in the making, we are part of the battlefield, even so much as our minor comments on a discussion board like me, you and other FReepers has had an effect on events almost instantly, several times I have seen something spoken here to appear on FOX, then it gets on the other news sites and even in the field.

We know who is the bottom feeders in the media, they are afraid of the truth, they run like cockroaches. They sell news to support themselves, not for the individuals. FOX has huped immeasurably in ratings but still has its problems, a cleaning of the staff is in order, most of the crew is excellant but occasionally they have flubs. Best part of FOX IMHO is that they really try to tell the truth! and thats almost scary after so many years of crap from CNN,NYT,LAT and the other media giants.

In the near future media will only be accepted for truth, hopefully the giants realize this and stop trying to dig a deep pit for themselves. I have vowed to never watch CNN again, never read NYT ever, who needs them?

The only point Morris failed to make was the instant communications on the internet.

On this forum we instantly heard about news reports from all over the world. It was exhilarating!

'Title it "The King of Puerility!"'

Or maybe, "The King of Puerilousness." After all, for 8 years we lived through some very puerilous times.

My comment on the thread was that Dick reads polls and knows public sentiment.I know during post war the same media will be at it and we'll see if they are the darlings again.
