This past week, “2016: The Movie” about President Barack Obama opened in the Chicago area, and I chose to get more of an education about Obama by seeing the movie. After the inundation of canned hype for the movie on conservative talk shows across the Chicago radio dial that sounded more like commercials than honest endorsements of the movie, I was skeptical of what I was going to see. While some talk show hosts sounded like they were genuinely impressed with the documentary and honestly endorsing the film, there were those who were obviously reading a commercial script which was...

Filmmakers call it "the movie the White House doesn't want you to see." Apparently, they're right. Perhaps the president was hoping 2016: Obama’s America would come and go unnoticed like so many other political documentaries. But seven weeks after its opening, the film is still going strong, prompting Barack Obama to finally respond, which he has done through a lengthy entry at his campaign’s website that calls the movie “a deliberate distortion” of his “record and world view.”

Politicians love to tell stories. They put little heartwarming stories in their speeches. Today, everyone will try to define Obama’s speech. I saw the speech and there was nothing new in it. He tried to fire up his base. We will see if he did it. Last night, I saw a movie that you should see too. Dinesh D’Souza made a movie and wrote a book, “Obama’s America”. It’s a very pragmatic look at Obama’s upbringing. There isn’t any birther stuff, but there are some autobiographical facts presented about Obama’s mentors, and his world view. Plus it overlays his record...

Box Office Mojo shows that "2016: Obama's America" was the fourth-highest grossing film on Friday, taking in $2.255 million, and trailing only "The Expendables 2," "The Bourne Legacy," and "Paranorman." What's more, its per-theatre gross of $2,067 is almost twice that of "Expendables," and well over double every other film in Friday's top ten.

Conservative scholar Diniseh D'Souza's film has shocked industry prognosticators by earning an estimated $20 million to date, more than five times what the second-highest documentary this year, "Bully," earned. While pundits and critics are divided over whether "2016: Obama's America" is a sobering documentary examining "the most mysterious U.S. president in modern history" or an 87-minute attack ad, there's no debating that the film is a box office phenomenon. Taking a page from his own book "The Roots of Obama's Rage," conservative scholar Diniseh D'Souza's film has shocked industry prognosticators by earning an estimated $20 million to date, more than...

I just saw 2016 today, it finally moving to a theater in my neighborhood. I thought it was just terrific, very well done and very persuasive. I'd be very interested to see what others think, especially fellow FReepers.

(video) HBO's Bill Maher debates Dinesh D'Souza about his anti-Obama documentary, "Obama's America." Maher also argues with D'Souza about the comments he made about 9/11 that cost him his job with ABC.

If Only D'Souza Were Right Mises Daily: Monday, September 03, 2012 by Gary North by Gary North 2016: Obama's America I went to see 2016: Obama's America. Dinesh D'Souza wrote, stars in, directed, narrates, and did the original research for it. If we look at this from the point of view of its success as a documentary, I think it is effective. It is making money in theaters. This is amazing for a documentary. It is a campaign-year documentary, and it is a good one. It is also dead wrong. That is because it misses the fundamental political fact of...

When the documentary "2016: Obama's America" was released at fewer than 200 theaters earlier this month, Democrats, liberals and other Obama supporters speedily dismissed it as a right-wing polemic, destined to quickly disappear into the nether land of late-night cable and GOP fundraisers. But the movie, pushed nonstop by conservative talk show hosts Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham and others, took off. When it expanded nationwide to 1,091 screens last weekend, it earned $6.5 million, the seventh-highest weekend gross in the nation. Finding a documentary among the top 10 box office moneymakers in any week "is very, very rare,"...

What a surprise. Fandango is a movie website that has reviews, tickets, movie times and ratings. Fandango “fans” continue to give “2016 Obama’s America” the top rating – “Must Go.” But for some reason movie critics across the country have panned the movie giving it a rating of just “So-So.” These far left critics just don’t see what all the buzz is about? http://www.fandango.com/2016obamasamerica_157117/movieoverview http://www.fandango.com/movie-trailer/2016:obamasamerica-trailer/157117/2271736622

It's rare that a low-budget documentary becomes a genuine blockbuster, but conservative firebrand Dinesh D'Souza's controversial new film, "2016: Obama's America," is one of the hottest tickets at the box office right now. "I'm overwhelmed," D'Souza said. "This is my first venture into film territory." The film is now showing in more than 1,000 theaters, and that number is expected to double by Friday, which would put the movie's release on par with a major Hollywood blockbuster. Last weekend, "2016" was already earning more money per screen than "The Bourne Legacy" and "The Expendables 2" -- combined. The film has...

WASHINGTON (AP) — ‘‘2016: Obama’s America,’’ a new conservative film exploring the roots of President Barack Obama’s political views, took in $6.2 million to make it one of the highest-grossing movies of last weekend. The film, written and narrated by conservative scholar Dinesh D'Souza, argues that Obama was heavily influenced by what D'Souza calls the ‘‘anti-colonial’’ beliefs of his father, Barack Obama Sr., a Kenyan academic who was largely absent from the president’s life.

I slipped off to the third showing of 2016 on Friday in Tulsa at 2:15 pm (Friday). The theater is a large multi-plex that includes an IMAX. I'm picky about my theater seats so usually get there early, but today had a previous appointment, so arrived with about 7 minutes to spare. The parking lot was jammed, and the first clue was, every handicapped parking place was taken (I didn't need one:-) I found a good single seat high up in the middle of a row. The two seats to my right were empty but taken. The two to my...

But the shocker was Rocky Mountain Pictures’ political documentary 2016 Obama’s America which expanded into theaters across America this weekend after a very limited release and wound up in 4th place. That’s stunning because it’s playing in 2/3 fewer theaters across North American than the other wide release actioners. (See below for more details). Due to its hot pre-sales, the pic is proving frontloaded, and its ranking will fall steeply by end of Sunday. But the doc made its point: its new cume after this weekend should make it the #1 conservative documentary (besting Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed’s $7.7M). The...

The anti-Obama documentary based on Dinesh D’Souza’s book “The Roots of Obama’s Rage” expanded nationwide on Friday — with early first-place showings in the domestic box office rankings, Deadline Hollywood reports. As of late Friday afternoon, “2016: Obama's America” had grossed $700,000 from 1,090 theaters. That compared with $300,000 for the new big-budget, Sylvester Stallone action flick “The Expendables 2,” which is playing in 3,355 theaters, Deadline Hollywood reports.
