Three people drew their guns after a reported theft, a Mobile Police Department spokesman said. Donnie James Moore, 60 had shoplifted steaks from the grocery store before officers arrived at 12:20 p.m., according to MPD. When a loss prevention officer tried to stop him, Moore shoved past him. The federal government says 173 unaccompanied immigrant children have been placed in Minnesota since the start of the year. The Office of Refugee Resettlement issued a state-by-state breakdown of unaccompanied child placement on Thursday. The figures show more than 30,000 children have been released to sponsors this year through July 7. "These children are leaving their countries as a matter of survival," said Jane Graupman, with the International Institute of Minnesota. "Their sibling has been murdered, their parents have been murdered, and so these children are desperate.

An 89-year-old American and alleged Nazi war criminal died just hours before a US court approved his extradition to Germany, his lawyer said late on Wednesday. Johann Breyer, a retired machinist born in Czechoslovakia, admitted joining the Waffen SS at the age of 17 but denied being a guard at Auschwitz, the concentration camp in German-occupied Poland. A task force has been formed to address the flood of unaccompanied migrant minors streaming into New York. A judge is sticking to light sentences for two men who participated in a mob attack on a Detroit-area motorist in April. Prosecutors lost their bid Friday to get James Davis and Latrez Cummings sent to prison for the attack on Steve Utash. The suburban tree trimmer was severely beaten when he got out of his pickup truck to help a boy who had darted in front of the vehicle. Utash was in a coma after the beating.
