Big news this week: stock prices are officially in an IBD 'uptrend' as of last Tuesday night! We can see it on the plot to the left (click on it to enlarge).OK, so we all can see that if we'd have sold on the 'uptrend' announcements and bought on the 'corrections' this year we'd be better off, but imho that only proves we're in a goofy backwards market. That's good; first, because now we know it's goofy, and second because we all need more entertainment in our daily lives. In the meantime let's all memorize the eleven cognitive bias's posted...

imho this past week is what I'd call a 'head-scratcher', but here are some other people's ho's: (click on pic to enlarge) Gold Seeker Weekly Wrap-Up Gold climbed $5.04 to $1294.24 by a little before 8AM EST before it dropped back to $1285.54 in the next four and a half hours of trade, but it then bounced back higher into the close and ended with a loss of just 0.04%. Silver slipped to as low as $19.052 and ended with loss of 0.1%. Next week’s economic highlights include the Treasury Budget on Monday, Retail Sales, Export and Import Prices,...

Investment & Finance Thread (May 4 edition)Something different we got while we begin this week is that we're also beginning a new month. Now, lot's of folks say May's are always a good time to sell (while I crunch that to see if it's true, everyone's welcome to check out "How to Use This Shockingly Simple Method to Immediately Improve Your Investment Returns"), what different this time is that if we look a the past couple hundred months----we're seeing that it's been as long since the '07 peak that was the same seven years after the dot-com peak. Coincidence? This...

While we've all been asking 'which way' for the past few weeks all we've been getting is 'nowhere in particular'. OK, so in the past 3 months we've seen everything leap up but then they all flop back to next to nothing just sitting there for a few weeks. Seems IBD called it right by saying the correction began 3 weeks ago with no 'uptrend' so far. Major indexes have given us new lows and descending highs --with volume on the bearish side.We got all kinds of pundits predicting all kinds of directions, but imho the "usually reliable" signs say...

There's a dirty little secret buried in the monthly employment data. It's a secret so dark, so exquisitely threatening to the financial media industry that those who reveal it risk being expunged from the community like magicians revealing their tricks. The National Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that 192,000 jobs were added to the economy in March. The unemployment rate stayed flat at 6.7%. The participation rate rose to 63.2%. Now the dirty secret: none of that actually matters very much. 1.The number itself is simply impossible to measure with any accuracy ... 2.The unemployment rate is irrelevant. ... 3.No...

New York has knocked London from its position as the world’s leading global financial center after seven years, according to the Global Financial Centers Index compiled by London-based consultancy Z/Yen. London slipped from the top of the global rankings, scoring 784 against 786 for New York, because a series of own goals had tarnished its reputation, the report said. […] Hong Kong and Singapore took third and fourth spots respectively, the same as a year ago, the survey showed. But the gap between the “Big Four” and the chasing pack, led by Zürich, Tokyo and Seoul, was narrowing, it said....

Forget about the 1 percent versus the 99 percent. It’s really more like the 0.000001 percent versus everybody else. A tiny group — mostly comprising the Obama White House, a bunch of Washington Democrats, progressive economists, and the media elite — continues to fixate on income inequality as America’s greatest challenge. Most everybody else, the 99.999999 percent, sees things differently. Surveys continue to show Americans most worried about jobs and economic growth, not the income gap between the top and bottom. It’s a rational view given new employment data from the government. The January jobs report showed only 113,000 net...
