Friends, I just released this joint statement with Rick Santorum on our support for Todd Akin in Missouri. Please share! This seat is critical to winning control of the Senate. "If Republicans are to win back the Senate and stop President Obama's liberal agenda, we must defeat Senator Claire McCaskill in Missouri. Her support of President Obama's job-killing, big-spending policies are sending o...ur country into an economic abyss. And her passionate support of ObamaCare is ensuring healthcare costs go up while quality of care goes down. Simply put, we cannot afford six more years of Senator McCaskill. "Todd Akin is...

August 21 was the deadline for him to drop out and be replaced by another candidate without needing court approval. He passed. Today was the deadline to drop out with court approval, before the ballots are printed, which makes it effectively the last chance. A powerful conservative PAC said today that "circumstances have changed" and it is reconsidering its decision to withhold funds for Todd Akin's bid for a Missouri Senate seat, and Akin's campaign said today they expect other groups will also resume spending. The statement by the Senate Conservatives Fund, a PAC led by South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint, comes as the 5 p.m. CT deadline for Akin to quit the race looms. The campaign remains adamant that Akin will stay in the race, despite urging from the GOP hierarchy, including Mitt Romney. "In the words of Churchill, Todd will never, never,...

On the last day Missouri Rep. Todd Akin (R) could withdraw from the race against Sen. Claire McCaskill (D), he made clear in a press conference that he’s going to keep on keeping on. Akin compared himself to Harry Truman, who he said was “pitched overboard” by the “Democrat Party” in his 1940 Senate reelection campaign. Truman made history, he said, and “we’re going to do it again.”

ST. LOUIS • A St. Louis native stuck in Dubai for months awaiting trial on gun smuggling charges said he was acquitted today on all counts. Steve Dolan, 57, a Dubai-based vice president for international shipping firm APL, said he faced up to 50 years behind bars after authorities told him they found some 30,000 knock-off pistols in a shipping container last fall. The container, which also held liquid soap, was apparently switching ships in Dubai while en route from Turkey to Djibouti.

Appearing today at a fundraiser in Kirkwood, Missouri for Senate candidate Todd Akin, former Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich offered the support and encouragement that few others in his party have dared give. Abandoned by the GOP after his infamous “legitimate rape” comments, and crucified by the liberal and conservative media alike, Akin vowed to remain in the Senate race for the “long haul” and emerge victorious. After sharing his toxic views on women’s health, Akin’s conservative donors and supporters pulled out in droves, denouncing the candidate’s statements. This despite the fact that in 2011 Akin had co-authored a bill...

After weeks in which the fate of the Senate simmered at nearly even odds of flipping for Republicans or remaining in Democrats' control, the outlook has shifted dramatically in the Democrats' favor. The incumbent party now has an 80 percent chance of retaining its majority, according to the Signal's prediction model. The break is largely due to critical races in Missouri, Wisconsin, Massachusetts and Virginia, all of which have favored the Republican at some point in the past month and now favor the Democratic candidate. ...

HELENA – Republican challenger Denny Rehberg holds a slight edge over Democratic U.S. Sen. Jon Tester in the state’s most expensive and hotly contested campaign this year, a poll by Lee Newspapers shows. Rehberg, the state’s sole congressman, is favored by 48 percent of those polled earlier this week, while Tester had the support of 45 percent. Only 6 percent were undecided and 1 percent said they would vote for Libertarian Dan Cox of Hamilton. “Usually, if an incumbent is trailing, that’s a problem,” said pollster Brad Coker of Mason-Dixon Polling & Research, which conducted the poll for Lee Newspapers...

Children and parents across the country are fed up with the restrictive new school meal regulations implemented by the Department of Agriculture under the “Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010,” which has long been touted by first lady Michelle Obama. The standards — which cap meal calories at 650 for students in kindergarten through fifth grade, at 700 calories for middle school students and 850 for high school students — also dictate the number of breads, proteins, vegetables and fruits children are allowed per meal. A spokeswoman for Iowa Republican Rep. Steve King, who earlier this month introduced legislation to...

Written off by many in his own party a mere month ago, Republican Rep. Todd Akin has been slowly rebuilding his Senate campaign after apologizing for inflammatory remarks about pregnancy and rape. Now Akin is approaching a critical week that could determine whether his re-emerging campaign can gain enough momentum to put Missouri back in the battleground column as Republicans attempt to win control of the Senate from Democrats. Tuesday is the deadline for Akin to get a court order to drop his challenge of Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill. But Akin says he won't do so. Instead, Akin plans to...

This is a little difficult but, hopefully, will work. When you see the two frozen video screens, scroll down to the second one titled "See the full debate here". When you click on the arrow in the center of the screen, the video will start but will not have sound. You must force the red bar to move right until you get to the 1.06 hour spot. By forcing the red bar to the right will turn on the sound. The 1.06 time will start the Senate debate. If you want to see all of the debates, starting with the...

Besides attacking each other over Medicare, school lunches and the Iraq war, Missouri Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill and GOP challenger Rep. Todd Akin spent their first debate Friday blaming each other for the gridlock in Congress that has stalled crucial pieces of legislation over the last two years. And after initially mentioning the damaging comments on rape and pregnancy that have dogged her Republican opponent over the last month, Mrs. McCaskill didn’t bring them up again. Instead, both candidates talked mainly about their sharp policy differences, with Mr. Akin trying to paint Mrs. McCaskill as an Obama liberal while she...

ST. LOUIS • Newt Gingrich is coming to St. Louis Monday for a Todd Akin fundraiser because he wants “to tell the people of Missouri” that they have the right to stand by the Republican Senate candidate of their choice, regardless of what the party's leaders tell them. In a phone interview today with the Post-Dispatch, Gingrich, the former House Speaker and presidential candidate, said the controversy surrounding Akin isn't the point. “The people of Missouri picked him to be their nominee in a fair fight.” He also warned what others have said: That for the GOP to throw in...
