A man is expected to survive after he was struck by a train on the Northeast Side early Monday, San Antonio police said. The man, 22, was struck by a southbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe locomotive near Wetmore Road and Wurzbach Parkway around 5 a.m. BNSF spokesman Joe Faust said the train's engineer and conductor saw the man lying on the tracks, apparently attempting suicide, near a bridge. The crew blew the train's horn and activated its emergency brakes, officials said, but couldn't avoid striking the man. Police Sgt. Donald Leonard said the man was then scooped up by the...

Article Tools EmailPrintSteelers Nation revving up Sunday, February 06, 2011 By Karen Kane, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette From the noisy streets of the Strip District to the contemplative sanctuaries of the region's churches and even within the boundaries of the animal kingdom, the Steelers Nation is revving up for the culmination of a winning season. Pam of Pamela's P&G Diner in the Strip called it "crazy." "We were mobbed the minute we opened the doors at 8,'' she said this morning. "Everybody is wearing their black and gold. People are already lining up at the bars. It's kinda scary!" she said over...

A loved one is in turmoil. He's a young loved one and he's an Iraq Army Vet. I can't pray specifically, just that he gets some wisdom and some peace pretty quickly. And I pray God will help him find his true home. Thanks for the prayers.

Hundreds of Elm Grove Middle School students gathered Monday afternoon in the school gymnasium for what they thought was a meeting with their new school counselor. They quickly learned that wasn't the case. Instead, the entire school gathered to honor a classmate who's battling cancer. 13 year old Odie Harris who was diagnosed with liver cancer seven months ago and has been making regular visits to St Jude. His dream is to become a marine. Today that dream became a reality. Members of the Bossier Sheriff's Department teamed with the Make A Wish Foundation to make Odie a member of...

Need some advice for peace of mind of the wife and I. We have a beautiful baby boy, almost 4 mos. old (next week) that had a high fever last weekend before Christmas. Monday we took him in and Dr. said that his cold/upper respiratory infection has given him a secondary inner ear infection ( acute otitis media (AOM). The good Dr. gave us Cifdinir (Omnicef) 3/4 TSP for 10 days and thankfully his fever has gone. However, this Christmas has been a nightmare for Mom and I due to his frequent waking and screaming. His schedule over Christmas was...

With Christmas almost here I want to find a special "Grace" to say before dinner. Apart from the one we said at catholic school - "Bless us O Lord for these Thy gifts..."etc., I found this one by Robbie Burns:- O Thou who kindly dost provideFor every creature's want.We bless Thee, God of nature wide,For all Thy goodness lent:And if it please Thee, Heavenly Guide,May never worse be sent; But, whether granted, or denied,Lord, bless us with content. Amen! Do Freepers have any favorites?

Story behind the song: Having been taught as a toddler that Christmas is the holiday that Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus, the little boy asked his Mom, "where's the line to see Jesus"? The Mom mentioned this to her Dad, who immediately became inspired and jotted words down to a song in just a few minutes.

Dear FRiends, Please send prayers up for my nephew and my family. His wife and beautiful 13 year old daughter were killed in the San Bruno fire yesterday. Mercifully he and his 15 year old daughter had left with my sister only a few minutes before the explosion but materially he has lost everything and I can only imagine the horror he is suffering at losing his beloved wife and daughter. My family in the Bay Area is large and they will be doing everything humanly possible to care for them in these trying times but prayers are always welcome....
