It's easy to think that by 2007, most professional sports teams had figured out this whole Internet thing. Yeah, funny thing about that, since one of the great examples of dot-com incompetence occurred back then, as Jerry Jones and his Dallas Cowboys organization could've snagged Cowboys.com and been operating under that domain for all these years. Now? Not so much.

...Latter-day Saints believe that in order to attain the best in life and the greatest happiness in this world and for the next, men and women must be married in the temple for time and eternity. Without the sealing ordinances of temple marriage, man cannot achieve a godlike stature or receive a fulness of joy. … ...to enjoy the privileges and advantages...as...husbands and wives, parents and children, the ordinance that authorizes and sanctifies this most beautiful of all relationships is not acceptable if it contains the limitation “until death do you part.” For family relationships and conjugal associations to be...

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — For one night a year, a neighborhood farm in northwest Boise turns into a respite for singles who are tired of the same old dating scene. [...] The farm is among a handful across the country offering an unconventional form of speed dating. Typically, speed daters meet at a bar or restaurant and switch conversational partners every few minutes, in hopes of finding someone compatible. With weed dating, this rapid-fire courtship takes place on the farm, with singles working together in the fields.

Is it a dealbreaker if your partner skips the bacon in favor of tofu? For some meat eaters, that’s exactly the case. The recent Love Bites survey of 4,000 singles conducted by TODAY.com and Match.com found that nearly 30 percent of meat eaters say they would not date a vegetarian or vegan. Writer and omnivore J. Federer told TODAY.com that while he agrees couples should have interests outside the relationship, food is one thing that should be shared. “Food is social, and the dinner table is where a couple gets back together after a day of work or play,” he...

Inspired by a classic Hollywood western, dozens of single women have been bussed into a small Spanish town in a desperate attempt to stem a severe bride shortage which is threatening to decimate the local population. In scenes reminiscent of the 1951 film 'Westward the Women, starring Robert Taylor and Denise Darcel, bachelors in the town of Candeleda are being introduced to women from Madrid. The small town of 6,000 on the banks of the picturesque Lobera River, hosted a weekend fiesta to welcome 68 women for a meet-and-greet with the village's single men. Ancient cave paintings show Candeleda has...

NORTH STRABANE, Pa. -- A Washington County man fell victim to an online dating scam and lost almost $400. According to police, the victim thought he was talking with a woman in Nashville, Tenn., on the online dating website Lust.com. The 42-year-old man told police they arranged to meet in Pittsburgh, but she needed him to send her money through Western Union to pay for the flight. Police said the man sent the woman money, but she never showed up. “It’s never a good idea to send any funds via Western Union to anybody you don’t know personally,” North Strabane...

When we talk about finding love, some people say it’s a matter of chemistry. But, it may actually be a matter of math. North Texas mathematicians have come up with complicated equations which are the driving force behind some online dating sites. For Dallas couple Bryan Joyce and Megan Thrasher, cupid’s arrow hit pretty hard when they met last March. “We pulled up in the parking lot at the same time and I remember seeing him, and there’s just always that instant connection,” said Thrasher. The two actually met in cyber-space first on the relationship website Match.com. “I had been...

Hello and happy Holy Days to all! I hope it is okay to post this today, as I am sitting here in my room in Rowland Heights, a good looking never been married man of 49, by myself on Christmas day. Although I am perfectly happy by myself, it would be so nice to share this and many other days with a bright and cute woman of the same conservative ideals that I have! Maybe this thread can be a beginning point for other FR sinlges to someday meet and get to know each other?

Common faults that mean men miss the mark included watching too much sport and poor personal grooming. Bathroom habits such as leaving the toilet door open were also cited by women taking part in the survey as a frequent failing. The poll of 2,000 women showed more than 75 per cent believed the perfect man did not exist. Other shortcomings were an inability to multi-task, criticising their partner's driving and not getting along with her family. Nikki McReynolds, marketing director for Remington which commissioned the research, said: "It seems that women are actually quite realistic on what they look for...

Why is it that "Conservative Women" like Ann Coulter, Laura Ingram, Christine O'Donnell and the like are well into their 40s and 50s and still are not married of have any prospects. Seems to me that having a normal family would be one of the largest conservative things that they can do.

According to a Financial Times piece “Inside Match.com,” dated July 29, the president and key engineer, Mandy Ginsberg and Amarnath Thombre, are information-love junkies. Really: Indeed, says Thombre, “the politics one is quite interesting. Conservatives are far more open to reaching out to someone with a different point of view than a liberal is.” That is, when it comes to looking for love, conservatives are more open-minded than liberals. Naturally, if you run the world’s biggest dating site, you’re bound to learn a few practical lessons. “With a mountain of data in its servers from the 75 million users it...

New research finds that men’s conspicuous spending is driven by the desire to have uncommitted romantic flings. And, gentlemen, women can see right through it. Study shows that flashy spending may work for the short term but not for marriage. Just as peacocks flaunt their tails before potential mates, men may flaunt flashy products to charm potential dates. Notably, not all men favored this strategy – just those men who were interested in short-term sexual relationships with women. The series of studies, "Peacocks, Porsches and Thorstein Veblen: Conspicuous Consumption as a Sexual Signaling System," was conducted with nearly 1,000 test...

It's been awhile since one of these was done, and I thought I'd see if there was any interest in starting this up again. Topic for the weekend: Books. Here's some questions to get the conversation flowing. Pick one (or more) of the questions to answer, if you like. (If you don't like, don't answer them! :-) ) 1. What book(s) influenced you the most? How? 2) What book(s) do you reread from time to time? 3) What book have you read recently that you would recommend to others? 4) What is (are) your favorite book(s)? 5) What genre(s) do...

SALT LAKE CITY — Fifty-five years after it created its first student wards and stakes at BYU, the LDS Church is doing away with its "student" unit designation. And in its place are newly formed "young single adult" wards and stakes throughout Utah as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints reorganizes, realigns and renames its congregational units for Mormons ages 18 to 30. * The reorganization: Gone are the single student wards and stakes and the designated young single adult wards and branches in the conventional home stakes, being replaced by general, all-encompassing young single adult wards and...

Is being a Protestant single pastor like being a married Catholic priest? Is it an oxymoron? I never would have thought so until the economic crisis hit, and I had to find a new pastoral position. For the first time in my career my future was in the hands of a search committee, rather than a personal connection. I’m ordained, 37, single (never married), with experience pastoring in large churches. Given my credentials, I had zero anxiety initially. Then I started reading “job requirement” phrases like these in pastoral job applications: -“We are looking for a married man” -“Preferably married”...
