In a battle of offensive juggernauts, Denton Ryan blinked first and could never catch up as the Highland Park Scots earned a shot at a second straight Class 5A Division I state championship with a 45-35 win over the Raiders late Friday at AT&T Stadium.
The defending champion Scots (14-1) will meet undefeated Manvel, a 35-10 winner over Angleton, next Friday at 7 p.m. on the same field.

Highland Park quarterback John Stephen Jones put on a show,
continually scrambling out of trouble and finding open receivers among the Raiders secondary. He finished the game completing 25-of-36 passes for 381 yards and five touchdowns.
Perhaps in five or six year we could see a Jones playing quarterback for My Boys.

Well, in other games where surely you hated the opponent: November 10, 2017 Sherman vs Denison
Sherman had a lot of difficulties with Denison and took a hard 49 - 24 hit. The game was close at halftime with a score of 14 - 10, but Sherman simply couldn't keep up in the second half. Sherman dropped down to .500 with a 5-5 record. The win bumped Denison's record up to 8-2.
BTW I graduated from Denison High School in 1965 and if I recall correctly, we won the Battle Ax and a Bearcat hide that year.

Yeah, Denison put it on them this year. It was a good game until that 3rd quarter when Denison opened up a scoring streak. Congrats.
And I hear they’re going to be in different districts next year. I hope that doesn’t mean the end of the rivalry. One of the longest in Texas. Since 1909.
By the way, my Allen Eagles won a hard fought game tonight. Will be playing Lake Travis next saturday for State.
