'Alien' mummy DNA probe may have crossed ethical lines
Fox news ^ | July 18, 2018 | Mindy Weisberger

The severely elongated head of a preserved skeleton found in Peru's Atacama Desert in 2003 is so unusual that it initially prompted people to suggest that the diminutive body was that of an extraterrestrial.

Since then, DNA testing confirmed that the remains — which measure about 6 inches (15 centimeters) long — belonged to a human fetus that researchers named Ata. But the scientists who conducted that investigation and published their findings in March have recently come under fire for their methods.

...Their investigation, which did not include any Chilean researchers, may have sidestepped protocols that typically monitor the ethics of research conducted with human remains, as their publication omitted "a sufficient ethics statement or archaeological permit," Kristina Killgrove, co-author of the new study and an assistant professor of anthropology at the University of West Florida, wrote in an article for Forbes.

..Because the remains are thought to be just a few decades old, studying them raises ethical concerns that the March study did not adequately address, the scientists in the new study said. Furthermore, as DNA extraction can destroy some of the body's tissues, additional restrictions typically apply for such an examination. And it is unclear from the prior study that DNA sampling was required to begin with, the researchers said.

"Unfortunately, there was no scientific rationale to undertake genomic analyses of Ata, because the skeleton is normal," the authors wrote in the new study, adding that the whole-genome testing previously performed "was unnecessary and unethical."

"We caution DNA researchers about getting involved in cases that lack clear context and legality, or where the remains have resided in private collections," the study authors concluded.

A fetus is a stage in the prenatal development of viviparous organisms. In human development, a fetus or foetus (plural fetuses or foetuses) is a prenatal human between the embryonic state and birth. The fetal stage of human development tends to be taken as beginning at the gestational age of eleven weeks, i.e. nine weeks after fertilization. In biological terms, however, prenatal development is a continuum, with no clear defining feature distinguishing an embryo from a fetus. A fetus is also characterized by the presence of all the major body organs, though they will not yet be fully developed and functional and some not yet situated in their final anatomical location.

The skull doesn’t look normal to me. I don’t know what to think of this story.

Let me get this straight: Rip apart living babies in the womb and sell their pieces parts to the highest bidder - perfectly legit. Insert a needle into a decades, or even centuries, old skeleton that is presenting unusual morphology - "OMG - the scientists are exactly like Hitler's Dr. Mengele!"

Essentially my thoughts as well.

Who are the control freaks trying to boss around the researchers?

The hypocrisy of the Left is unbelievable. They worship "science" when it promotes their agenda. But should "science" prove uncomfortable, well then it's Katie bar the door! Kennewick man is another example. Or the Bell Curve.

Additionally, these Godless atheists suddenly find "spirituality" and "sacredness" in ancient third world "tan people" remains including fetuses. And yet back in the USA they have no problems with dumping human remains from abortions into the garbage bin for disposal.

Yes, it's a documented practice, but it was only performed on infants after birth. The subject of the article was a fetus when it died, and its skull was already elongated.

As a side note, many of the elongated skulls that have been discovered, show none of the typical signs of cradle boarding, or intentional deformation.

Even stranger, a lot of them:

· Are missing the sagittal suture
· Have eye sockets much larger than normal humans
· Have larger than normal cranial capacity

Lol! I was going to post this same exact article earlier today as a thread AND include "Beavis" as a joke.

Great minds...

Thanks a fool in paradise. Only a few decades old? Could use some moisturizing cream, then.

mummy ethics went down the toilet a long time ago.

Compliments of AP - 1996

A top Peruvian anthropologist said Friday that President Clinton's joke about the sex appeal of an Inca mummy was "tacky," and criticized the display of the mummy in Washington. Other Peruvian scientists complained that the 500-year-old frozen mummy, known as the Ice Princess, was being used by Peru's president to bolster his image.

Clinton joked during a political fund-raiser that the mummy was "good-looking" and if he were single he might ask her out. "That mummy looks better than I do on my worst days," he said.

Anthropologist Sonia Guillen said "obviously there's a lack of respect" in Clinton's remarks.

The phony-baloney excuse for destroying and paving over the mise en scene of Kenniwick Man so as not to offend people who were unikely to be his descendants is an extreme example of this silliness.

I wonder if any if any of the elongated skulls have been DNA tested to determine if the creatures are Homo Sapiens, or maybe Denisovians, (of which no skulls have been found to date)

Surprisingly, there is a large percentage of Denisovian DNA in Polynesian cultures...when I say large I mean under six percent. American Indians also show signs of Denisovian DNA.

It has been postulated that South American may have been populated from the west, along with from the north. What little we do know about the Denisovians indicate that they were able to make intricate jewelry some 50 kya.

The way I heard it, K man is not an Indian, opening the door to speculation that the Indians got this country in the same way that the whites got it from them.

Yep. K man appears to be European, but don’t say that around the ‘natives,’ as it harshes their narrative. They’re like modern Roman Catholics in a way. If they believe something long enough it becomes tradition and must be true. It offends them to say otherwise. And we know that offense is the biggest offense in America.

Proves the old saying, that without double standards liberals would have no standards at all.

According to Brien Foerster of Hidden Inca Tours, yes there has recently been DNA testing done on some Peruvian elongated skulls.

The skulls tested positive for haplogroups common to the Andes mountains area and the Caucasus mountains region, with additional DNA not common to any known homo sapiens haplogroup.

I do not know the percentages involved with those test results, but a quick search will probably answer that question.

“They’re like modern Roman Catholics in a way. If they believe something long enough it becomes tradition and must be true.”

In the realm of faith, protestants are to Catholics as leftards are to conservatives. They understand nothing of what Catholics believe, but that doesn’t stop them from lying about it constantly.

Out.

As George MacDonald Fraser wrote, when two peoples collide in a howling wilderness, and for some reason they both want it, one of them goes down.
