In the newly released 1.5-minute Air Force video, a figure identified as Chapman can be seen charging up a steep slope toward enemy positions atop the 10,000-foot peak... Chapman and SEAL team leader Britt Slabinski teamed up to attack enemy positions. After assaulting the first of two positions, identified as bunkers in the footage, Chapman abandons cover to attack a second position where an enemy machine gun was firing on his team, when he is wounded.

This would be the first Air Force recipient of the Medal of Honor since Vietnam. They’ve been a bit stingy with that medal, in my opinion. Only four people in the Iraq war have been recipients for example, and all were posthumous. I think the criteria should be strict but not quite that strict.

“all were posthumous”

Yeah, there’s something wrong with that.

“They’ve been a bit stingy with that medal”

Fully agree. They have turned it into a weird cult at this point. And many deserving actions are not awarded. Also this happened in 2002. It is now 2018. This did not need a 16 year investigation. Imagine taking till 1961 to decide some man in the battle of Iwo Jima deserved the award.

They cheapen it by making it this stingy. I think some of it is that the military despises awarding bravery in an era that is suppressing everything masculine in the military.

They could not defeat him. All they could do was kill him.

This is honestly the first time I have ever seen video of an actual attack that later brought not one but two MOH awards. I am in awe of the bravery and heroism exhibited by their actions.

I’d like to see a “MOH week” in our schools.
Living recipients could speak to a class (with q and a)and a vid of it could be sent to every class to see.

This one should work, if not, copy the link, paste it into the search engine box, and read the cached version.

I was talking about Iraq. The award you mentioned was for Afghanistan. Afghanistan has had a number of living MOH recipients.
