Genes Link Bipolar, Schizophrenia, Once Thought Unrelated
AP News ^ | October 22, 2022 | Laura Ungar

When Chastity Murry had her first psychotic break, she went into her bathroom and downed a whole bottle of pills, hoping to die. Her teenage daughter had to perform CPR to save her life.

Around that same time more than a decade ago, the man who would become her husband, Dante Murry, also lost touch with reality and considered suicide.

Different illnesses led them down similar paths – bipolar disorder in her case and schizoaffective disorder in his – conditions long considered by many to be distinct and unrelated.

But a growing body of research shows that bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and the in-between diagnosis of schizoaffective disorder share common genetic underpinnings as well as overlapping symptoms and signs.

A few years ago I had the good fortune to meet a brain researcher from the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm. We were in the same party of a safari tour company at Kruger National Park in South Africa. You can't go out at night (too dangerous) so we all sat around the fire at night talking.Martin did most of the talking because the other three in our party were also in medicine and found him fascinating (as did I).

At one point he said "scientists know more about the surface of the moon than we do about the human brain".

There are other genes known to link major depressive disorder, bipolar, obsessive compulsive, schizophrenia, autism, and ADHD.

If any of these have popped up in your family, you’d be wise to take care who you have children with.

Don’t double down.

“At one point he said “scientists know more about the surface of the moon than we do about the human brain”.”

That’s changing fast (actually know more about both) as in the brain study case fMRI and some other advanced dynamic imaging techniques are shedding light on brain function like the full moon.

So all these illnesses are treatable to some degree with modern pharmaceuticals. What about Chronic Schizophrenia which does not seem to respond to any treatments? Maybe an illness not linked to all the others?

Bipolar manic depression has always been recognized as a symptom of schizophrenia.

I believe there to be a few causes:

1. Autoimmune response to ingested and mimicked opioids introduced through inflamed vagus nerves

2. Adolescent unchecked clearing of unused brain synapses

3. Autoimmune response to mitochondrial degradation and presentation on nerve cell walls

4. Prion disease.

5. ?

In addition to AKAP11, the most common genetic deletion is called 22Q11. 30% of 22Q11 patients become schizophrenic by age 22.

Good thing the people who ran MKUltra never had access to everyone's genetic code or they could have hand picked the most susceptible targets to manipulate.
