A medieval village, set in the Tuscan hills of Italy among castles and monasteries, can be yours for €2.5 million. Pratariccia, which is situated about 25 miles east of Florence, has now been put on sale through ebay, the popular online shopping website.
The village consists of 25 homes and eight hectares of land. The village has been abandoned for over fifty years, so many of the buildings are in a ruined state and electricity lines would need to be established. Also, no roads exist that lead to the village.
Local estate agent Carlo Magni said in an interview, "It's a stupendous location, 40km from Florence, with hermits still living in the nearby hermitage of Camaldoli and all the castles you'll ever need, dating from when Siena and Arezzo fought over the area."
The current owners of the property are said to be a monastic order, who have been trying to sell the land for several years, and hoped that by listing it on eBay it would get more attention. Magni added, "I posted the advert two weeks ago and I've had lots of calls about it and I'm hoping to get some viewings arranged over the next few days. I think it has potential as a private hotel or luxury spa and that's what one of the potential buyers wanted to do but it fell through."

Medieval Castle and Village for Sale in Italy -- The village of Castelnuovo, located the the Marche region, is now for sale. The village comes with the remains of a castle, a church, a fountain and nearly fifty buildings. Located in the Italian countryside close to the cities of Rimini and Pesaro, Castelnuovo is about 20 kilometres from the Adriatic Sea. The history of Castelnuovo dates back to the eleventh century, and by the early thirteenth century, the area was under the control of the Bishop of Rimini. Throughout the Later Middle Ages the village changed hands to various lords, but prospered. By 1371 the community was home to 25 families. While the village was home to about 600 residents in the 1950s, it has now become all but abandoned, with just a handful of people living there. The Castelnuovo Company now owns all the property in the village, with the exception of three units. They purchased this property in 2006 for $210,000 US, and have been seeking local government approval to restore the village. The owners are now seeking to sell Castelnuovo to a party who wishes to carry out the restoration and preservation efforts. If the village is restored, it could become a tourist attraction, with the various houses to serve as a hotel.

For those who have the cash, go for the lead one here -- completely abandoned, being sold by monks, no electricity, no road, no residents, and encouragement from the nearest inhabited town. The other one looks a little fresher, but I have a feeling the small handful of current residents will outvote anyone who wants to redevelop. |

MAESTRO: Oh yeah, I’ve been at my house in Tuscany.
KRAMER: Oh Tuscany huh? Hear that Jerry? That’s in Italy.
JERRY: I hear it’s ah beautiful there.
MAESTRO: Well if you’re thinking of getting a place there don’t bother. There’s
really nothing available.
JERRY: (Surprised) Huh?
So I'm expected to pay 2.5 million AND stock the village with peasants?
It includes less than 20 acres though.
The quickest way to repopulate the place — even without a road — is to cast out on the Internet the fiction that the church was originally a mosque.
Buy a boat.
More fun when you sell it.
If you haven’t seen Florence, you’ve got to see Florence. If you go, eat at Il Latini. If you’re a vegan, it’ll suck
I’ve been seeing her sister Edith, but maybe...
I think this village is too far inland to berth the boat, so forget it. ;’)
Still a chance to be Queen of all I survey...ummmm.
A fixer upper no doubt with privacy but yet good proximity to Florence. At 2.5 million euros less than a similar estate in Taxifornia!!!
“The quickest way to repopulate the place even without a road is to cast out on the Internet the fiction that the church was originally a mosque.”
Even faster, spread rumor that the village has queer priests cavorting in the ruins.
Sorry about the accuracy of the above. Wish it were not so.
So did they get that approval???
The owners are now seeking to sell Castelnuovo to a party who wishes to carry out the restoration and preservation efforts.
Did they get the approval??? If so, then why don't they want to restore it???
If the village is restored, it could become a tourist attraction, with the various houses to serve as a hotel.
or it could become a money pit.
That’s the second site, and that crossed my mind — I wondered above if the few people who live there voted down the idea, and the company now has to unload the property.
Annnnnd, ya get to live in Italy. :’)
$2.5 million to buy it, $2.5 billion to restore it. LOL!!
