Help- my sister was bit by an ObamaMoose!

Howdy all, I'm a long-time lurker, occasional poster here on FR. I’ve always enjoyed the good articles, lively debate and excellent resources for conservatives here, so I’m taking the liberty of bringing a slight “issue” to y’all to see what you think.

Recently (around the start of summer, about two months ago) my younger sister (aged 22) started talking about a young man she’d met in one of her Communications classes. She said he was very nice, handsome, smart, and it was obvious that she was starting to take an interest in him. About a month ago, they went out on a date, and just now, she changed her Facebook status to reflect that she was “in a relationship” with this gentleman.

I clicked on his profile name, and noticed with more than a little dread and disbelief that his political views were “Very Liberal” and his fan pages were for 0bama, Students for Obama, etc. A lot of his favorite books were by Naomi Klein, Al Franken, Howard Zinn, and the other “intelligentsia” that the Left loves to trot out.

I haven’t met this gentleman yet, but we’re all supposed to have dinner at my parent’s home tomorrow evening. Any ideas on how I should react to this? My parents raised my sister and myself to honor God, country, and family first, and I’m almost a little hurt that she’s bringing home “the enemy.” I’m torn between wanting to correct her thinking like an older brother can vs. just letting it go, but I can’t really bear the thought of my sister turning into an Obamabot herself. She’s of the college age at a generally liberal campus, so I’m worried she’s entering a Leftist phase at the behest of this kid.

So, Freepers- how should I handle this? What would you do?

Invite your sister and her boyfriend over, and make sure that your gun collection, pro-America/troop stuff, American flags, ect are all out on display. Make sure that you are open carrying too, if this is allowed. Play patriotic music and/or have Fox News or a conservative commentator on.

Well FiF if you’re still reading what you want to do is hire a lady of the night to come on to him and tape their motel room encounter. Mail tape (uh I mean DVD, so behind the times) to sis. Problem solves. Since he’s a liberal like you though possibly you should hire a ‘gentleman’ of the evening instead.

Let’s see - I was visiting **my** relative. This **friend** dropped in unannounced and immediately started bad-mouthing everything we believe in. My relative believes as I do, but just won’t say anything - who was being rude? Me?? I think not.

Ok. So it was **your** relative you were visiting - making you a guest in **their** home. If their friend dropped in unannounced that is a boundary for them to set in their home as they please. If your relative indulges them in their rants that is - again - their boundary to set in their home. You've responded to a lot of things I haven't actually said but I missed the part where you somehow stopped being rude to a friend of your host while you were a guest in their home.

And since when did being a doormat and letting rats run all over us become a conversative virtue? Why should rats get to say anything they want, where-ever they want and to whoever they want, and that’s perfectly OK. But should we actually **respond** to a rat with facts and logic, somehow we are bad and uncivilized? Time to wake up, doormats are not capable of retaining what little of our freedom we have left.

I never once suggested that we should all become doormats. One can be forthright, honest, and defend yourself with vigor without being rude. I never said it was acceptable for democrats or other liberals to say whatever they want whenever they want. I never said we should let them walk all over us. I never said that stating facts and logic are rude or uncivilized. Again - you seem to be responding to a whole lot of things I never said. HOW we confront people with facts and logic determines if we are rude or not. For example - were I guest in your home I wouldn't have raised an eyebrow to your behavior today. As it's a public forum, however, comment is invited ...

My family from Ohio were Democrats but have not voted that way for president since Carter. Many of my relatives are as conservative as I am, yet *I’m* the Republican. Go figure.

You should consider telling these distant family members that you pray for them next time you see them. It may be a little uncomfortable for a few seconds because they may not know how to respond at first but even secular liberals can appreciate the sentiment and desire for their well-being that you have expressed. Who knows - You might even win a convert. (!)

Be sure to wear your Rush Limbaugh and Ronald Reagan pins and don't forget an American flag pin!

Be sure to say grace before the meal, asking God to save this young man from his sins and to keep him from being influenced by the devil, in your prayers.

Mention you like your news fair and balanced and Free Republic is your go-to website for accurate and dependable news.

Talk about your great medical plan you have now, and then mention how all this healthcare talk will destroy the world's best medical care in the world, all the time not letting on you know he is a democrat.

Talk about guns and how you like to shoot them. Stand up for the 2nd amendment.

Talk about God and Jesus and how much you and your sister were raised to love the Lord.

Talk about how much your family hates abortion and its supporters.
