Most Neanderthals Were Right-Handed Like Us
Live Science ^ | 8-24-2012 | Megan Gannon

Right-handed humans vastly outnumber lefties by a ratio of about nine to one, and the same may have been true for Neanderthals. Researchers say right-hand dominance in the extinct species suggests that, like humans, they also had the capacity for language.

A new analysis of the skeleton of a 20-something Neanderthal man confirms that he was a righty like most of his European caveman cousins whose remains have been studied by scientists (16 of 18 specimens). Dubbed "Regourdou," the skeleton was discovered in 1957 in France, not far from the famous network of caves at Lascaux....

Morality aside, one has to admit becoming POTUS is a measure of success on one’s life. But technically, I’m ambidextrous:)

My third grade teacher(Phillipino-Catholic: very superstitious...Phillipinos that is) in Catholic School wouldnt let me write in her class unless it was the right hand. I stopped writing, the report card came, and my mother let her and I presume the Principal have it! Problem solved. I’m the oldest of three brothers. All left handed.

Any time I see someone writing with their left hand it looks so ridiculous.

The ones you notice are those who had stupid teachers. Others it would take you a while if ever to notice they're left handers. Ok, so when you're writing with your right hand, you have the top of the paper pointed to about 11 o'clock. Lefties need to merely tilt their papers to a 1 o'clock position so as not to do that ridiculous upside down wrist thing.

Ha, we left handers laugh at you right handers when eating but we're more polite and don't bring point it out. Look at a table setting. The fork is on the left and the knife is on the right. You righties have to fumble switching hands when cutting something whereas we lefties just continue to eat without all the fuss. Guess who gets to the seconds first, lol!

And yes, we are better looking, smarter and funnier.

So it’s logical to write with your left hand? Please elaborate.

its logical to write with whatever hand you were born to write with.

Forcing a left-handed to be right-handed causes reduced activity in the dominant right hemisphere and increase activity in the non-dominant side. Since creativity and imagination are dominant parts of right brain, they will remain under-developed and the left-side of the brain sees increased activity that deals with reality, facts and logic … characteristics that are opposite of the person’s true potential. The consistent use of non-dominant part of brain affects the personality while growing up and the adaptability can be difficult. Forced right-handers have to work a lot harder to improve handwriting, take more time to adjust in using tools like scissors and knives, are unable to perform better at activities (like sports) than natural right-handers, get tired easily and may even have language difficulties due to possible dominancy conflict between the two halves of the brain.

Right handed like "us"? Who's us dipshiite? Got a mouse in your pocket? Do a survey of scientists and engineers sometime, and you will find a much higher proportion of lefthanded types than in the general mob. Gee, what might cause that? Maybe their brains work better because they developed naturally, rather than having some mother forcing them to be right handed.

I had a step-monster that did exactly that to one of my step brothers. I still recall her domineering him and forcing him to stop using his left hand naturally as a baby. Poor kid is now a liberal lawyer, go figure.

Oh yeah, I throw left handed, but bat right handed, but golf left handed, and bowl right handed

Left handed when writing and eating. Right handed when using scissors. Ambidextrious throwing, batting, golfing, etc.

You still can’t see what you’re writing if you tilt it to the 1 o’clock position. I don’t understand why it’s not taught in schools, that you should pick up your writing instrument with you right hand and use it. Just like shaking hands.

Hey, walking backwards might spur the creative juices too, but it’s a disadvantage to walk backwards because you can’t see where you’re going. Just like you can’t see what you’re writing when you write with you left hand unless you’re writing in Arabic or Hebrew.

I’m Left-handed writing and eating only (can do those right-handed too - to a point)- everything else is Right-handed. I’m Left-eye dominant too which I believe is why I’m lousy at sports :)

One really good thing being a lefty grants....you can use your computer mouse and write at the same time :>)

it is a fact...European languages are written left to right, Asian and Hebrew is written right to left.

right handedness is about 85 to 90% worldwide. do you expect that 85 to 90% of the Asian Hebrew group browbeat their children into writing left handed, so as to make them fit that template and while at it turn them into mentally unhealthy human beings??? .....that was a rhetorical question...I know the answer.

Yes, I can. Not that I need to see what I’m writing any more than I need to carry around a mirror to see that I’m chewing gum, but whatever. Soldiers start marching with their left foot but you don’t see them having to look down at it to make sure it’s doing what they want it to.

PBS said that Neanderthals could only make a high pitch noise like the howler monkeys. They even mocked up the voice box to show how it worked. These theories are all over the place. What is a guy to believe.

I guess your left hand must be translucent. Either that or you write with the weird cripple stance that BO uses. He writes like he's severally handicapped.

I’m not prejudiced against left-handed people, but I honestly don’t understand why we don’t actively teach kids to write with their right hand. Any time I see someone writing with their left hand it looks so ridiculous.

My former wife, a natural southpaw, was "switched over" by her mother at the ripe old age of about four. She never really recovered from it. Her penmanship was entirely legible, but any time a tool or utensil was involved, she turned clumsy.

As long as she was left-eyed to begin with, when she was ready to learn to shoot, I switched hands and taught her how to hold the .22 rim fire rifle left-handed, then how to hold the revolver left-handed. She had a little trouble with the right-handed rifle's operation, but the revolver, a Smith & Wesson K frame .22 long rifle, seemed perfectly sensible to her. She eventually realized I'd "tricked" her; by then, however, she was a fully safe, reasonably accurate shot.

Hussein had many stupid teachers and advisors from childhood on. Besides, I already explained to not do that ridiculous wrist thing all that’s required is to tilt the paper toward 1 o’clock. Hussein isn’t smart enough to turn it so it remains at 11 making him write upside down.

But you’re determined not to believe any of us left handers. Close minded, yes? Again, I hold my wrist as it should be and can clearly see what I’m writing. I’ve had people who have known me for years who will suddenly one day blurt out they didn’t know I was left handed as if that something to be shocked about - but, but you don’t write all funny!!! - uh, no, why should I. You probably know many left handers but they just don’t happen to write upside down for you to notice.

So just to understand correctly here, you’re saying that when you write, the written words show up above your hand as you write them. Correct? I’m trying to visualize how you see the words without your fingers getting in the way.
