Full Title: Did Beer create modern society? Ancient man developed agriculture to brew alcohol and not to bake bread, claims scientist

Some scientists claim beer - not bread - is the reason early man adopted a society based on farming around 10,000 years ago, a key moment in our evolution. The cultivation of grain saw the transition away from a hunter-gatherer lifestyle and a widely-accepted theory is that the crops were used to bake bread, but experts claim it was the prospect of a brew that drove the desire to settle down and start a farm.

I’d need a few brews before going out to hunt a saber-toothed tiger.

Whoring around was a lot easier when all it took was a club to the head.

the early humans didn't have any spare time

My understanding from Archaeology class is that some did, and it can be determined how much free time they had by the quality of their artifacts and tools.

So people would rather drink beer than eat....right !!!

Momma might not be too impressed when farmer husband brought home the barley and oats to make beer and watch his family go hungry. .

people didn’t grow food for food?

Beer came when there was an EXCESS of grain. Beer is a way to not waste the grain and “preserve” it.

Seems like that is what I did from '64 to '78.

Well, I guess you and I took some different anthropology classes. Or maybe our definitions of "spare time" differ. Oh well, it's not important to me...but if it is to you, then GO FOR IT.

It would take something a good deal stronger than beer to create the society in which we now live.

**Beer without nachos (or at least chips and dip) makes no sense whatsoever**

But they had to have a few beers on board before coming to that conclusion.
