‘Something is weird’: Incredible dinosaur graveyard raising eyebrows in the paleontology world
Fox News ^

Posted on 04/06/2019 9:49:14 AM PDT by BenLurkin

Dr. Stephen Brusatte, a Palaeontologist at University of Edinburgh and author of The Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs, is among those that have questions around the extraordinary claims made by the team that have...

... said he was “very excited about this discovery” but noted aside from a single partial dinosaur hip bone mentioned in the paper, ideas of a dinosaur graveyard being reported in the media lack any real evidence so far.

“The New Yorker article reports a dinosaur graveyard with bones of many types of dinosaurs, along with feathers, eggs, and even embryos,” he said. “I’m afraid there just isn’t any evidence, aside from a single partial bone, for me or other dinosaur paleontologists to assess right now.”

Dr. Brusatte, 35, is widely recognized as one of the leading paleontologists of his generation.

He finds it strange that many of Mr DePalma’s claims presented in the media were not mentioned in the PNAS journal article.

“Lots of stuff in the New Yorker article is completely absent from the paper,” Dr. Brusatte added. “The geology is very credible but there isn’t enough evidence yet to assess the dinosaur aspect of the story.”

Brian Switek is a science writer who specializes in paleontology ...

He also finds it odd that such a high level of secrecy has been maintained around the site, while only some details have been included in the peer-reviewed journal.

It is typical practice for paleontologists to compile “faunal lists” of species present at a dig site, he explained, and he was surprised that one was not provided in the paper.

Mr. DePalma and his team have cited concerns around poaching for not opening the site up to many other researchers — something which does reportedly happen in the field.

No, but they did find the bones of some folks that worked for her but knew too much.

The dinosaur specialist who was not included and does not have all the information yet seems bitter he was not included. I actually read the article (I know...against forum rules), and it seems like he is arguing for all sites to be open to him and other scientists who would love to piggyback on someone else’s work.

Maybe someone in the “industry” could tells us a bit about unethical archaeologists either hiding findings and keeping them unreasonably away from others and, on the flip side, thinking that if they don’t have access to the latest dig, that dig is bogus.

The principal investigator, Robert DePalma is not a member of the club, the paleontologists. He doesn’t have a PhD, he is just a doctoral candidate, he is not associated with an important research institution, and he has been known to sell fossils.

This paper presents the finds that have been fully described and support the interpretation of the site. The intent of this paper is to establish that the site represents a very precise period of time, the hours after the impact of the object that struck the Yucatan Peninsula 66 million years. As reported elsewhere, additional finds at this site include more dinosaur remains including impressions of skin, dinosaur eggs with embryos, and mammals burrows with mammal fossils. These finds will be described and explained in future papers.

The criticism will be aimed at discrediting DePalma and protecting the turf of the big paleontologists, particularly, I suspect, Jack Horner who “owns” the Hell Creek Formation where this site can be found, and because he was the first to discover a dinosaur egg with embryo. It will be a real cat fight.

This site originally belonged to a private collector. He gave up on it because there were no usable fossils. They would break apart when exposed to air. Therefore, poaching wouldn’t be a problem.

The New Yorker writer embellished the story with lots of stupid things the writer picked up from popular misconsceptions, or invented himself. And implied that the scientists told him that.

Rivals of the scientists involved in the actual dig (who, with the exception of the guy who found the site, are heavy-weights in the field) have seized upon the writer's crap (and lies) to attack the real scientific findings described in the New Yorker article.

The actual scientific article was published a few days after the New Yorker article, and it says none of the crap the New Yorker writer added to what the scientists told him. I checked that out carefully.

I imagine there are lots of post-Flood “sites” filled with debris and other mangled body parts as the waters retreated.

Since the Flood also signified the cut-off point for man living over 120 years, there must have been a change in the atmospheric make-up of oxygen, etc., which accounts for the giant trees that were felled at the same time...

Giant trees that existed at the time of the dinosaurs that we somehow don't want to acknowledge are actually felled tree stumps...

LOL so obvious when we see the photos and realize what we are looking at!

Millions of fossils are smuggled out of China. They could easily dump a bunch and say “Look!”
