Gary Glenn: 'Anti-'discrimination policy could be weapon against religious
Governor's effort is first step to give gays special benefits
Gov. Jennifer Granholm chose Christmas to announce her new executive order granting special "protected class" status to state employees involved in homosexual relationships, morally and legally equating homosexual behavior to race, ethnicity, and religion.
To families whose Christian faith teaches such behavior is wrong, Granholm's timing was a slap in the face.
Granholm insists she added "sexual orientation" to the state's hiring policy only to stop "discrimination" against state employees. Surely, she can provide examples.
Instead, her political payoff is the first step of a broad agenda proposed by openly homosexual Rep. Chris Kolb, D-Ann Arbor.
According to the Ann Arbor News, Kolb proposed "including gays and transsexuals in the list of protected classes in hate crime and anti-discrimination laws. Next would come an attempt to secure insurance and work benefits for same-sex partners, followed by legislation to allow same-sex marriages. ... The stepping-stone plan outlined by Kolb echoes the approach in Vermont ... that finally legalized same-sex marriage."
The homosexual Triangle Foundation termed Granholm's directive a "terrific first step." A Lansing State Journal editorial agreed it should be viewed only "as a first step."
Step two, Kolb says, is forcing taxpayers to subsidize homosexual behavior by extending tax-funded insurance benefits to state employees' "domestic partners."
The National Gay & Lesbian Task Force explains: "Before attempting to get domestic partner benefits from your employer, it is imperative the (employer's) nondiscrimination policy include sexual orientation. ... A common rationale for establishing domestic partner benefits is that failure to do so is contradictory to a nondiscrimination clause."
Meanwhile, evidence suggests Granholm's supposedly "anti-" discrimination policy may itself discriminate against employees who oppose homosexual activists' Vermont strategy.
Ann Arbor - citing its "sexual orientation" policy - prohibited city employees from making payroll contributions to the United Way. "A council majority believes its own anti-discrimination ordinance prohibits it from supporting Boy Scouts in any fashion," the Ann Arbor News reported, "including staff time and city computers for payroll deductions that go through United Way to the Scouts."
Ann Arbor fired a veteran detective on charges that he violated said policy by expressing his opinion during a public forum for police chief hopefuls. "(He) is accused of saying he thought one candidate had a gay agenda," a homosexual newsmagazine reported.
A Triangle Foundation news release demanded that Detroit withdraw its $50,000 grant to city Scout troops, insisting the Scouts' ban on homosexual Scoutmasters violates city policies "expressly forbid(ding) discrimination based on sexual orientation. Triangle also asked that the city cease all other support of the Boy Scouts, including the use of public facilities."
The Legislature must ensure that state employees, the Scouts, and others are not similarly discriminated against by the Granholm administration.
The final step of Kolb's strategy is legalizing homosexual "marriage."
Granholm ridiculously argues that a state constitutional amendment preserving Michigan's one-man, one-woman marriage law will hurt our economy.
Logically, she must believe legislation repealing Michigan's traditional marriage law will help our economy.
Watch for that announcement on Good Friday.

You know, I thought she wasn't too bad either. She isn't that bad on fiscal issues, but she sucks on social issues. Why does this issue have to be so in-your-face? It's discouraging.
but it is helpful know this broad has a very low approval rating last i checked so she wont be staying much longer
