My sister told me this morning that her 7 year-old asked why almost all the people in the line were black. Of course, it was something we all noticed, but nobody but a child would say it.

I saw alot of Blacks, but I also saw alot of Cajun White types.

and there obviously was no levee-related flooding; just some water due to the rain.

Right. I saw that too right after the FQ report and knew it wasn't there. Must be upriver.

I think the levees have been topped not breached.

The only way I see that being a good choice is if there is more refinery capacity than oil production for a period of time.

He should not do it just to make it look like he's 'doing something', as some people ahve suggested.

Well, I said it too. My interpretation is that there were more black people without the resources to leave town. Any speculation beyond that would probably be controversial.

levies on east side by Lake have TOPPED, some flooding beginning - Shep via emergency radio

I'm racking my brains to try and get a mental picture of where all this is happening. I lived aboard the Naval Support Activity on the West Bank nearly thirty years ago, and I want to say the town was Algiers. I do know it's below the river line, because we had to climb up from the parking lot to get to the shuttle boats to go to work.

She came ashore at Little Lake, due south of Pearlington, 4.3 miles west of the last graphic that went up.

http://photobucket.com/albums/y138/jeffers_mz/Katrina/?action=view&current=7amplots.jpg

The significant surge is much wider than the eyewall plot on that graphic, clear over to Mobile bay (unconf rpts at +16-17 feet, Hiway 90), though that may be a localized funnel effect.

Data on surge effects btwn Mobile NO will tell the story.

"Plackaman. (sp?) "

Randy Newman: Louisiana

What had happened down there was the wind had changed
Cloud rolled in from the north and it started to rain
It rained real hard and it rained for a real long time
Six feet of water in the streets of Evangeline

The river rose all day, the river rose all night
Some got lost in the flood, some got away all right
The river busted through clear down to Plaquemine
Six feet of water in the streets of Evangeline

Louisiana, Louisiana
They're tryin' to wash us away
They're tryin' to wash us away

Only an Ole Miss graduate would say something this stupid. French Quarter's OK, so the rest of New Orleans must be fine. Or is it that you really don't give a damn as long as you can park your arse at Pat O'Brien's?
