The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

Cafferty is a bitter liberal who opines from NYC.

Wolfie took to be stunned.

Well if she didn't have the stamina to deal with something like a disaster, she had no business running for office IMHO. You either have it or don't and it is obvious the people of LA cannot lean on her the way the people of MS can lean on Barbour. She was clueless in the press conference and now ordering a total evacuation? Made me wonder what was happening. Better to be honest with people IMHO then try to sugar coat it.

I would personally ring that POS Cafferty guy's neck if I could. I want to use every swear word in the book right now to vent about the guy. The nerve of asking where the President was and why he was making a speech about the end of WWII when this is going on I seriously cannot believe him right now.

"CNN has been great"

CNN is always best for breaking news, but CNN can not resist spinning stories once it has figured out the spin. I just left CNN coverage because they are beginning the spin. From here on out CNN will be more spin than news.

Yeah, Like Bush would have been there filling sand bags, or flying a helicopter.

Idiots.

Only a wacko would try to politicize a hurricane.

And, when Andrew struck in 1992, Bush I was criticized for going down there...You can't win for losing with these people.

"While the Katrini story is incredible, the world moves on. "

Not my world. Not until I hear from my son.

......and for the duration, I will go to CNN first for breaking news on this situation. They were the only ones with live coverage late last night, and they have consistently been first on the scene with breaking situations.

Besides the existing flooding, Katrina has been busily dumping rain upstream from NO, which is going to find its way downsream

OMG...and now they have to evacuate the Superdome?

I sure wouldn't want to be tasked with that mission.

No it doesn't. I never said it did. There are levees down along lake ponchartrain in the main bowl, which would get the water up to sea level in it, or maybe a foot above, but now the pics show the water 4 feet above sea level in the main bowl. Thus the Mississippi, which is 14 feet above sea level, must be flooding in, and presumably the water is flowing through NO into Lake Ponchatrain, and the Missisippi has found a new channel to the sea, right through beautiful downtown NO.

I think that about sums it up. Maybe somebody should tell the networks to read this post.

Tell Cafferty the President is going back to Washington. Would he prefer the President go to the Superdome?

I think you are way over exaggerating.

Believe me, I hope I'm wrong. I hope everyone who's posted today that NO will be back open for business by Mardi Gras 2006 is right. And if so, I'll be bringing my kids down there to see it, like my parents brought me, because I truly love that city; had my honeymoon there. There's something about it, an atmosphere that is like no other place.

I'll make my kids sweat in Preservation Hall to hear the jazz, just like my parents did, LOL!

My guess is that it would take to long to get the ships out of mothballs, and then they would have to be retofited.

Cafferty worked in a dig at the Pres, huh? He'll get his dinner paid for by Howard Dean tonight.

You're right in your description of him. Arrogant and biased.

I am awed by the rescues going on. How dangerous to be hovering around these rooftops trying to pluck people off of them and not run into all those electrical lines everywhere?!
