I think Pelini is an excellent coach. However, I don’t think he is the best fit for Nebraska. I think they need to go back to the way Nebraska football was established by Devaney and Osborne. Right now, I would like to see Gill get the position. He was embedded as a player and coach in a program that was established in a way that was second to none.

Can’t come as much of a surprise, given the Hooskers’ season this year.

Here are my thoughts: The Cornhuskers are on the right track with the west coast offense. This will attract recruits who will want to goto the next level. As far as I can tell, the ingredients are there. The defense on the other hand is in dire straits. If Bo Pelini can strentghen the defense and simplify the west coast offense, then they will rise up again.

If you doubt my wisdom, just look at the offensive scores, even on their losses.

Taking as much emotion out of this as I can..I think Callahan is probably as good of an offense guy as there is...he’s just not head coach material....he lost the Raiders after the superbowl and he lost this team after USC. I’m not a very knowledgeable X’s and O’s guy but know enough that he needed to go as head coach...

Why should any college athletic club care about recruits that want to go to the next level?

I’m assuming that by “the next level” you mean pro.

I wholeheartedly believe that it is not about offense, defense or special teams. It is about character. The foundation of the Nebraska program under Osborne was built on character. That is the spirit that the Nebraska program needs to recapture. I believe Nebraska had something different, something more special than any other program in the country. Osborne not only preached character, but he lived it and the players eventually learned from it.

The best athletes expect to continue to the next level, at which they can secure their fortune. Therefore, any team which wants to attract the best athletes must show that it can help those athletes along the way to that destination.

Therefore, any team which wants to win and believes the athleticism of its players contributes to its likelihood of victory will care about the sort of football played at the professional level.

“Why should any college athletic club care about recruits that want to go to the next level?”

Because it is a selling point to the recruits. Any college recruit who says they don’t dream of going pro is lying. It is human nature to progress. Now granted, most college football players won’t make the pro’s for whatever reason.

That is not necessarily true. Ask Urban Myer. In fact, the opposite is true. At least that is what he says anyway. I saw him speak about two years ago and the problem he first encountered at Florida was that the players were only concerned with going to the next level instead playing as a team and winning football games.

Florida...I didn’t know they had college football teams. Do they even have Pro teams? I mean seriousely, Miami Dolphins?

OK,you are right. But leadership knows how to temper the drive for the next level and play as a team. college footbal is a team sport mixed with personal drive.

Horsesh1t.

The huskers got 3 national championships with running plays and option quarterbacks that never went anywhere after college.

Now they are using the west coast offense with an NFL coach paid millions per year and what do they get? THE worst season in 30 years.

The west coast offense coupled with a high school defense will get you a losing season.
