WICHITA, Kan. (AP) - The family of slain abortion provider George Tiller said Tuesday that his Wichita clinic will be "permanently closed," effective immediately.

In a statement released by Tiller's attorneys, his family said it is ceasing operation of Women's Health Care Services Inc. and any involvement by family members in any other similar clinic.

"We are proud of the service and courage shown by our husband and father and know that women's health care needs have been met because of his dedication and service," the family said.

Tiller was shot to death May 31 while serving as an usher at the Lutheran church in Wichita that he regularly attended. Scott Roeder is being held on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated assault in Tiller's death.

Tiller's family said it will honor his memory through private charitable activities.

Family members said they wanted to assure Tiller's previous patients that the privacy of their medical histories and patient records will remain "as fiercely protected now and in the future" as they were during Tiller's lifetime.

Perhaps a donation to Planned Parenthood?

For every day that clinic stays closed, Scott Roeder saved appx 5 unborn children. can we at least thank God about that?

Great point. Scott Roeder has saved more babies than Pres--ent Ubama has saved jobs.

And Roeder's contribution can be verified.

“Why are pro-abortion AND pro-life groups so deferential to the late abortionist Tiller and his family...”

Political correctness.

If you thank God, then you have to thank Roeder.

Nobody seems willing to do that.

Unholy ground, IMO! Burn it to the ground and beg for God’s forgiveness. I bet NOTHING would grow in the empty lot, not even weeds!

I’m glad to hear of the closures. I just hope that the actual surgical abortion rate decreases until there are no more killings in the womb.

If you thank God, then you have to thank Roeder. Nobody seems willing to do that.

Thank You Scott Roeder.
I just did, And it really wasn't that difficult.

Scott Roeder may have been a troubled individual, with ten dollars, a car, and a gun as his assets, and little to show for his lifetime of existence, but with one inexpensive act, he has become infamous and heroically stood up for the unborn by killing a man who fiendishly lived off of the spilled lifeblood of babies. Scott may be in prison for the rest of what otherwise could have been miserable years of decline for a troubled underachiever, but now he has atoned for his lack of achievement and has fame as a prisoner of war in the battle against abortion that he formerly anguished over. What was once just angst is now his accomplishment, gone are his days of feeling like he hasn't made a difference. I wouldn't doubt that Scott will chose to derive much of his self identity from this bold act instead of the 50 something years of Scott's underachievement that preceded it. I'm guessing that his comments from jail indicate that he sees himself as a prisoner of conscience who has sacrificed himself for the right of life for the preborn children.

People from every end of the spectrum and everywhere in between have condemned Scott Roeder's act of killing. But if you were to view it as the first shot in a war for the defense of unborn Americans, that would make Scott a hero who acted while 300 million of us either stood against him, or did squat, or just prayed that God would stop george tiller from continuing to kill multiple babies every day from his business in Wichita.

Tiller’s associate, Carhart, is willing to; perhaps they’re not eager to spend their inheritance on officials who look the other way whenever a lawsuit came up.

Captured Nazi doctors were tired for war crimes for the same kind of murders, and claimed their crimes were also ‘legal’.

I think they’d like to enjoy their blood money without being shot at. This wasn’t the first time someone shot George Tiller. If his family had continued his business it would only be logical to assume that they might also be targeted in the same way that he was. They could be saying “don’t shoot! We’re not doing it anymore. George loved killing the babies, we just loved the money.”

It all depends on whether or not this will cause the left to cower or if it will inspire them to greater acts of barbarity in the future.

So do we sit on our can for another 40 years and see if the abortion industry voluntarily goes away?

I don’t think that if you thank God for a child murder’s absence from his murderous ways by way of a justifiable homicide means that one must thank the person who has commited the vigilante homocide.

I am probably misunderstanding you. I truly thank Scott Roeder for what he did, although it IS sad that it had to come to that. I do NOT shed any tears for anti-Dr. Tiller, however. I would NOT condemn a person who kills a late-term abortion doctor after lawsuits have been heard and charges are dismissed in a criminal investigation on the anti-doctor. As to whether one kills a late-term abortionist before all other methods are exhausted, I would have to think about that deeper.
