Romney outlines plan to overturn health care bill

Former Massachusetts governor and 2008 GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney predicted that President Obama's massive health care bill would be passed by Congress, and he outlined a legislative strategy to overturn the bill by cutting off the funding necessary to implement it.

Speaking in Dallas yesterday as part of the publicity tour for his new book, No Apology: The Case for American Greatness, Romney said that the key to his plan was for the GOP to reclaim majorities in both houses of Congress as well as the White House.

Romney said that those members voting for the health care bill were guilty of "clueless behavior", and he predicts heavy losses heavy losses for Democrats in this year's midterm elections. "The American people are not going to stand still for this bill and the government running our healthcare, said Romney. "The American people will be with us and they will throw those guys out."

“Ironic he created the same bloated donkey of a law for Boston isn’t it?”

I think that in the past Mitt supported the idea of making Romneycare mandatory, but at the individual state level- let each state figure out how to implement the fed mandate, as long as they met certain fed standards. I don’t have the reference handy, though.

Remember Alinsky. Never let a crisis go to waste. Romney has set on the sidelines on the health care bill, and now that it’s really happening and is a crisis, he’s going to jump on it.

Too late, should have spoken up sooner and provided leadership when something could be done about it.

Some "plan".

Defunding programs is temporary and repels votes.

Repeal is the only option.

That requires the Presidency, both Houses and a veto-proof majority in the Senate.

Saying he has a plan is disingenuous.

Coming from a guy who spins the health care bill he signed, I’d say Mitt should just get lost on this subject.

Well, cutting off funding is a good sound bite, but it still leaves the law on the books. It’s not the answer. Neither is talking out of both sides of one’s mouth as Romney is prone to do. He defends his Massachusetts health care fiasco, yet uses the unpopularity of the federal version of the same to gain support for 2012. Romney will never, ever, get my support.

I’m glad R’s are starting to talk about this as a platform item. But what about REPEAL THE STIMULUS.

The time for this platform was before Nov 2008. It’s too late. This is all posturing by Republicans.Healthcare takes a treacherous turn at some point today.

I like it, please can we allow ourselves to build some momentum? It is gutsy and concrete for Romney to lay this out there.

Amazing. When the issue was OBAMACARE/ROMNEY,
Where was Romney? As the article says:

Speaking in Dallas yesterday as part of the publicity tour for his new book, No Apology”

Mitt RomneyCARE was SELLING HIS ghostwritten BOOK,
helping Gore push the fraud of climate change,
and attacking the "tea party".

PROOF THAT OBAMACARE/ROMNEYCARE IS A PROVEN FINANCIAL FAILURE

is bankrupting Massachusetts and will do the same nationally.

"Romney admitted ... that about half of the real costs of "extending
coverage to the uninsured... is covered by federal tax dollars.

Mr. Romney's RomneyCARE is doing what entitlements do: crowding
out private insurers, compounding the cost explosion, walking the state toward rationing.

From CATO (the whole article is worthwhile): "Of the 133,000 people who have signed up for insurance since the plan was
implemented, slightly more than half have received totally free coverage."

“That he promoted the same crap in mass. will hurt him badly - very badly.”

Great point, and we need to back candidates who aren’t so tainted otherwise we risk wasting our votes. Guys trying to play both sides will lose elections, and rightfully so.

I am thankful, however, for all who speak out with ideas/gameplans for the future. Communism is at our doorstep and it must be killed.

"RomneyCare = ObamaCare."

Bears repeating.

One of the principal reasons Obamacare has come this far is that people saw RomneyCare implemented - and they don't see its failures, just that it passed.
So Mitt Romney bears a great deal of personal responsibility if Obamacare passes.

Agreed.

Everything the 111th has done needs to be rolled back.

I want to hear, clear and strong and repeated ad nauseum, that healthcare is not constitutionally the federal government's business. And I want to hear Romney talking publicly about what a mistake Massachusetts healthcare was and why government running healthcare is a bad idea.

Withholding funding is a temporary stopgap at best, certainly not worthy of an election platform.
